Pros

Most of the tax professionals are nice and professional.

Cons

They charge the same rate for a first year tax professional as they do a 20 year veteran - I don't think it's ethical. Pricing is based on the number and types of forms needed to do the return. Not the time or value and education level of the tax pro. I found this to be misleading and unfair to customers. Customer service is not a priority. I was yelled at for spending too much time with clients because I was trying to explain the value of saving for their retirement as well as the fact that they had until the tax dead line to donate the funds for the previous year. This was in an effort to build value in our services as well as possibly have the client use their return for retirement savings and then return to do a 1040X for an adjustment. Both of which we could have facilitated and earned extra profit on. We were not busy when I did this and my manager was too shortsighted to see the potential long term sales in what I was doing. My manager also engaged in gossip with employees often regarding other staff as well as went on our computers when we were not present and went through our emails without permission as well as played favorites. I found this behavior to be highly unprofessional. Because of the longevity of the people working in this office the tail wagged the dog. The tax professionals made their own work schedules regardless of whether it was in the best interest of the business.

Pros

The other tax professionals are terrific to work with. Continuing education is cheap to purchase through their Academy. The majority of the clients are a pleasure to work with.

Cons

Minimum wage job; commission is difficult to achieve so you mostly end up with a minimum wage job unless you have built up a clientele. They consider the hours spent on the clock calling prior customers and practicing on their software to be unproductive time which goes against any commission earned. Regular pay for season is subtracted from paltry commissions and you get the difference. Block expects you to up sell their other products - tax prep fees are already pricey enough. Pay isn't worth it.

Pros

The tax training is good. Some people are helpful and others are awful. The schedules are done timely and I wish I knew there would be more hours before I got hired.

Cons

Do this and do that! Do it now. The pay is below poverty level. Market and get new clients. I do. But clients complain about the price going up substantially every year.
