Tax Professional I

Pros

A massive amount of information is given in their basic tax course, but even a first level tax pro will use about 75% of it. Elective courses are available once you're hired so that you may dive deeper into learning additional tax topics. I was trained before the mandatory federal test, and did quite well with the actual job. Helping clients through a confusing and tiresome thing such as taxes is actually a really great feeling. Many clients that came into the office I worked at had been coming to H&R Block for several years, but maintained an "easy" tax return. New hires, don't be discouraged!

Cons

The amount of corporate spiel that you are required to do in each client interview gets old very, very quickly.

Pros

During different times of year you have great flexibility in work schedule. Some good perks depending on your position. Pay was average.

Cons

During busy times you are 100% consumed with work. DGM's who have most tenure still use vert antiquated styles and don't really know how to manage people or business the right way. You never knew after each tax season if you still had a job or not.
