Pros

Flexible hours and locations. Dignified environment, you wear a tie and work at a desk in a cubicle. Almost like a real job. OK training, and pretty good peer support. Managers generally friendly and fair.

Cons

For minimum wage you are expected to prepare tax returns for people and charge hefty fees. In addition they want you to upsell products (extended warranty, "identity protection"), and to market among family and friends. And the IRS can hold you personally responsible for errors and omissions. Worst case scenario? Irate customers, lawsuits, trouble with the government. Yeah. Or you could bag groceries for the same pay. Worst case scenario? you drop a bag on the floor, have to go fetch another carton of eggs.

Pros

Education - learned a lot in the course, but for $150 you can take it many places.

Cons

$9 / hour regardless of experience - they say you are "in training" your first year. If an employee isn't worth more than $9/hr they shouldn't be doing taxes! they push you to sell products to people who really don't need them they have a 2-year noncompete agreement that they sneak in at the last minute they frequently schedule "mandatory" events that span for just a couple of hours, many unpaid with very short notice They don't tell you all the hoops you will have to jump through up front - there are many

Pros

Tax Training, Seasonal Employment, excellent co-workers with extensive experience and skills, really good people.

Cons

Seasonal employment. Poor compensation structure. Upper management delusional. Upwards of 50% turnover in employees in recent years. Corporate pushes you to grow your own book of business and corporate will give clients from your book of business away via online appointment booking or call center appointments to anyone in the office. No loyalty program for returning clients.
