Meh.

Pros

If it’s not a hyper competitive office, you’ll generally have a good work climate with everyone in the office. The intensity of the tax season can really bring out the best qualities in people and bring everyone closer together. Working with so many clients from the rich to the poor, newly working or retired and everything in between opens up the opportunity to network.

Cons

The website is cumbersome and had to maneuver. Some tax preparers think that CSPs are beneath them because we man the front desk which always leads to very angry confrontations. The managers are stretched really thin so even if they want to resolve an issue, there are about 100 more issues that need to be resolved. It’s hard to have clear communication between headquarters to the districts to the offices so it’s very difficult to know who to talk to.

Pros

You get your taxes prepared for free. Flexible schedule.

Cons

It's a seasoseasonal position and even if you work off season it's at reduces hours. No medical is offered due to this. Hourly rate is low.

Changing in a bad way

Pros

Great coworkers and clients! Lots of training available.

Cons

This is a sales job and taxes are secondary. Managers are rarely around and don't have a clue about taxes, but push sales. They promise commission pay for experienced tax pros but sabotage that making them do free returns or heavily discounted ones. The software is not even tested until tax season so offices have to deal with errors. There is zero support for how to use the software. If you call about a question all they will do is research the tax law to see if you are allowed that item, but even they don't know how to enter things in the system. HRB is about getting as much money from clients as fast as possible and expecting there will be no negative consequences later.
