Pros

The opportunity to meet and work with many types of people and discover what they earn. Knowledge of tax law can be personally beneficial. Hours you work are usually very flexible.

Cons

Not very much opportunity for full time employment. The initial pay is very poor considering the high level of professionalism they expect. Some of the managers are incompetent.

Pros

A lot of training is available

Cons

Very little feedback or mentoring. You must train yourself, and then pray you've learned tax codes correctly as there is little to no feedback or quality control.

Pros

Learn about old and new tax laws and deductions/credits; beneficial for doing one's own taxes

Cons

My particular store manager was of little help. I relied on my coworkers to help me learn the finer details of the software system as well as specific interpretations of certain tax laws. Shyness will prevent you from learning.
