Pros

• Opportunities to lead and manage multiple locations, which keeps the work challenging, dynamic, and interesting. • Strong support network from district leaders and corporate teams. They provide clear training and resources to help meet goals. • If you like helping people, this job is rewarding—clients truly appreciate getting their taxes right. • Flexible work-life balance. Any downtime is a nice perk considering the busy months. • Decent pay for the season, and bonuses are achievable if you meet targets.

Cons

• The job is heavily seasonal. Once tax season ends, there's little to no work, so it can feel unstable. • Long hours during peak season (January-April), often working nights and weekends, which can be tough if you have family commitments. • High-pressure environment to hit targets. Some locations struggle with staffing issues, making it even more challenging. • Limited opportunities for career growth beyond the seasonal role unless you relocate or take on a hard to get corporate role. • Sometimes feels like upper management is out of touch with the reality on the ground. They push aggressive goals without fully considering individual store circumstances.

Pros

The pay and most of the people I worked with were good folks.

Cons

Toxic micromanaging work environment. The older tax pros warned me that upper management has a habit of running seasonal managers off and burning them out. I was optimistic at first but then that quickly became my reality. Everyone is either a you know what kisser or a micromanager. A lot of back biting and total wreck of the use of chain of command. If you take this position you are a glorified mascot and snitch. And if you don't play their game they will sabotage. Thee worst work experience of my life and that's saying a lot!!

Pros

I learned tons at H&R Block. The Leads and Seniors are very intelligent, super helpful, and the teams are reasonably sized with mostly reasonable workloads.

Cons

They will let you work exactly as much as you want to work, to the point where it becomes detrimental. Some people are working way more than 50 hours a week, and management won't hire enough to prevent the leads and Seniors from feeling like they have to put in that many hours. Pay is just barely acceptable.

Pros

There's a lot of downtime. The manager didn't force me to do any cleaning.

Cons

A lot. Here's a list 1. TERRIBLE PAY. As in worse than the local taco bell pay. Starting pay is 10 a hour, no time off, and negligible benefits. 2. Unpredictable hours. Some days you work like 12 hours and others its only 2 hours and your gone. 3. Upper management is extremely immoral and disconnected from reality. Upper management constantly screws over older employees out of their commission, pays interns unlivable wages, and expects managers to work 60+ hours on a salary that a Mcdonalds shift manager would scoff at. Overall, I'm surprised anybody works at that awful company.

Pros

Somewhat flexible scheduling, you mainly work on your own tackling projects to service tax offices by doing maintenance on, or replacing their PC hardware.

Cons

Limited hours (40 max) that heavily restrict your paycheck, which is bi-weekly. You have to expense the company for trips frequently to reimburse gas, which is done through a lengthy process between 2-3 apps/websites just to request it. Very disorganized system of tracking and managing work, clocking in, pay, etc. composed of disperate apps and sites w/in a frankly convoluted system for what would simple at any other company for tech work. It's often seasonal work, with no guarantee that you'll be brought back after the next tax season ends. There's disorganized, undertrained management with no clear focus on how employees should tackle projects, and massive budgetary issues with needed equipment for employees. Plans for thorough training and on-boarding change often, and end up abandoned over just sending out new hires to just figure it out w/ little proper guidance. The attempts at employee morale are just to put technicians in "teams", then pit them against each other to see who can meet the deadline first -- rather than making sure the work's done right, and new hires *know* how to do it. The result is that long-time or "ambitious" (delusional and oddly self-important) technicians that take the job way too seriously in the worst ways are put in charge, and their method of "help" is just patronizing you with supervisor meetings, or taking over your work if they're afraid you're ruining their chances of "winning". Other technicians will just take hardware supplies from your home office without telling you, it seems, so look out for that if you're close to a deadline.
