Tax Preparation

Pros

- Flexible Work Schedule - Seasonal - Courses Available to attain CEU's and Increase Tax Knowledge - Ability to prepare taxes on different platforms both in-office and at home. Virtually or in-person. - Ability to grow with the company and increase your commissions by taking certification exams.

Cons

Low pay compared to other companies No paid health benefits for seasonal employees Managers and CEO's are hired without knowing how to do a tax return and are out of touch with tax professional and client needs. Tax Pros are considered expendable and because of this most tax pros with the most experience are leaving for better companies or to do on their own.

Good people, poor structure

Pros

If you are new to the tax world, you do get a lot of easy hands on experience to get your feet wet as well as get to work with some very knowledgeable folks. Coworkers are great, flexible schedule.

Cons

Block has shifted from a service minded industry to a retail minded industry, which lacks client relationships. Upper management likes to delegate their responsibilities to the managers on site and let them take the blame for their shortcomings but swoops in to take the credit when there is success. Even after multiple complaints to HR and employees leaving the DGM still has a job somehow that he is unfit to hold. I likely would have endured the companies shortcomings longer than my six year run if it wasn’t for such poor oversight of the people put in place to oversee districts. Leading up to and during tax season the training is great but new hires are left in the dust once tax season is over and the turnover is pretty bad, you’re lucky if you get one or two tax pros to stay. Pay is not commensurate with experience.

Pros

I love that they’re very flexible perfect for students and or having a second job, perks is that you get your taxes done for free. Customer service is great in regards to helping out the client’s needs before filing taxes.

Cons

The only downfalls of this position is the setup of having to do campaign calls, which they’re not very effective at times lack of feedback towards management doesn’t really exist as to let them know what works to bring in more clients and such. Training should be implemented a little more year after year coming back rather than starting day one and cramming new schedule manager and new system por protocols. Another thing is I wish there was room for growth instead of just tax pro, also that it’s just a seasonal job.
