Pros

Flexible schedule but must be available twenty hours a week.

Cons

Hard to make more than minimum wage for several years. Training can be paid but they also expect you to take additional classes from them and you don't get paid for your time. There is also a fee to access classes.

Pros

Access to a lot of free tax education after you complete your first year. The training, team, and management are absolutely wonderful.

Cons

The pay needs a complete overhaul. Work here for the experience and education but you need another job to at least make it through your first year.

Pros

You learn a lot. Its a great resume booster. They do a really good job training you so that you have a great understanding of the tax system

Cons

Got 10.50 an hour. There is very little room for growth. You pay raise is based on the amount of tax returns that you do, which can be hard to come by.

Pros

Tax preparation training is provided, although you have to pay to subscribe to it.

Cons

The retail work environment is very unprofessional and equates to a sweatshop where only the bottom line matters. Required 20+ hours of tax training is unpaid and at the tax professional’s time and expense. Compensation is commensurate with a Tax Professional’s level, not with with their experience or the value of tax returns completed, despite what management says. There is no quality control over tax returns completed, such that inexperienced and unknowledgeable tax professionals complete tax returns they’re not qualified to complete. This breeds an environment of mistakes and inaccurate tax returns. Promises of “end of season bonus” for tax professionals are no more than empty promises. District and Office management have no integrity or people skills and only care about the bottom line. There is no focus on developing and retaining tax professional talent, which makes the H&R Block retail model unsustainable. The tax software is cumbersome, and not user friendly or intuitive to use, even for experienced tax professionals.

Pros

- Flexible work schedule which is great for students who want to work a part-time job - I work as a front desk clerk so I am tasked with greeting clients, making appointments, and answering general questions - it was a pretty simple job

Cons

- I even feel frustrated for our clients because the company's prices are so high - Prices are not transparent - The company pushes for profits and production, and no focus or value on maintaining customer loyalty and satisfaction - Training is very unorganized and unclear; they would get inexperienced people to train new employees
