You are on you own to get the support you will need to succeed. Which was made worse since they forced you to go on to levels that I was not prepared for. Taking tests by google is not my idea of preparation in something so complex as the harder types of tax preparation. Plus, I would be liable for my mistakes to a too large of a degree for me to continue.

Because of the size of the company, communicating to all associates can be a challenge. Leadership and the communications team do a good job of trying to get news out to all associates across multiple platforms.

The retail work environment is very unprofessional and equates to a sweatshop where only the bottom line matters. Required 20+ hours of tax training is unpaid and at the tax professional’s time and expense. Compensation is commensurate with a Tax Professional’s level, not with with their experience or the value of tax returns completed, despite what management says. There is no quality control over tax returns completed, such that inexperienced and unknowledgeable tax professionals complete tax returns they’re not qualified to complete. This breeds an environment of mistakes and inaccurate tax returns. Promises of “end of season bonus” for tax professionals are no more than empty promises. District and Office management have no integrity or people skills and only care about the bottom line. There is no focus on developing and retaining tax professional talent, which makes the H&R Block retail model unsustainable. The tax software is cumbersome, and not user friendly or intuitive to use, even for experienced tax professionals.
