Pros

Recruiters and account managers get to travel across the country for various trade shows. When the market is good, management is positive and helpful, but also arrogant and snobbish. Income potential is quite high. But it remains potential; it never comes to fruition for most.

Cons

This office deals with only one service line, and the market for it is absolutely saturated. Favoritism is rampant. Rules are bent for certain chosen ones. Only select employees are permitted to work from home, even though that luxury is afforded to the consultants we never met. One particular employee was hired and immediately gifted with the biggest and most lucrative accounts. Bafflingly, management then continued to praise her as if she had done it all herself. When one longtime employee left our team for another, TEN of her consultants were gifted to one struggling (yet seasoned) employee. Management is unfair with distributions of territory and excess consultants. The office is very chatty, which makes it difficult for work to get done. My requests to move desks and/or work from home were ignored. There is no movement whatsoever into promotion. Every day is the same. The job is repetitive and mind-numbing. There is no work-life balance at all. 15 days of PTO annually is not nearly enough to recuperate. When someone resigns, those within the company take it personally and do not speak to the former colleague again.

Pros

Somewhat flexible schedule. If I needed to leave to go to a doctor appt, I could leave without asking for permission.

Cons

I felt like I couldn't trust anything that was told to me. Often times I would ask 5 people the same question and get different answers from everyone. Sales team didn't work that hard and complained quickly if they weren't supported. They also wouldn't flip leads into jobs until it was too late and the competition had already beaten us. And in true "sales" fashion, they only talked to you if you were making them money. Other than that, no one cared if you came to work or not. We were urged to treat consultants like children ("you tell them to take the job" or "if they want it, they need to take $10 less per hour than what they usually make"). When I did have a big profit margin, sales team members would lower the rate they charged the client, basically minimizing my commission. In annual or personal reviews, I would offer suggestions or point out problem areas that needed fixing but instead of talking through those things and how we could improve, I was shut down on and was left feeling like it was dumb to bring things up. This is a "make calls, stay in line, do what you are told" type of job.

Pros

You can work from home 2 days a week.

Cons

No job growth opportunities, company lacks integrity. They will send you to client sites and training and then expect you to wait over 4-6months to be reimbursed for out of pocket meals & rental car expenses! No one in management even acknowledges your emails or calls.
