Pros

The company has decent starting pay for entry level employees, however do not expect that to increase significantly as your title and roles and duties evolve. They will lure you in with a sense of community with weekly company sponsored happy hours while constantly failing their employees.

Cons

The company is more interested in appearances, how people are perceived at face value, than actual quality of work. It is very much a 'boy's club' with very sexist, racist, and homophobic remarks being thrown around the workplace. With no viable HR, sexual harassment goes unpunished. Incompetent management, many who have either checked out of their responsibilities, waiting to blame those working beneath them for their shortcomings, or they're truly that unskilled in their field. People are promoted due to who they know despite having no qualifications for the role they've been moved into. Management is extremely two-faced, the CEO has very little interest in his role within the company, while the co-owner spends his day judging people based on appearance, tattoos, facial hair. The CFO is driven by his own ego and has systematically removed or run off anyone who he personally didn't believe was the future of HITT Contracting. All in all, a company that was once great, could perhaps be great again, but is failing its employees, failing its promises. For the first time in years it was not named one of the Best Places to Work, and they wondered why oh why did that happen? Look to yourselves, look to the way your employees below a Director level are treated, look to the nepotism. I left of my own accord and couldn't get out of this company soon enough.

Pros

They put on/sell a good show with the values and culture. Health benefits and 40 hrs pto start immediately.

Cons

They allow their managers and senior managers to target/bully/harrass/publicly humiliate and sabotage entry level employees. Dont bother going through proper channels to resolve or get help. It will only make it much worse. When you address 1 issue by making management aware, the team rallys/supports/ advises and encourages a new type of onslaught to begin. Prompting a shift to a different toxic onslaught/torment type. The culture touted on through orientation, was definitely realized to be false by end of day 4. Someone may do ok if they buy into the take the high road mantra which encourages people to not speak up against the as before mentioned wrongs done by team vp to mid managers. Salary to save them from paying overtime and you will work it or become a target.

Pros

Most of the employees are genuinely communicative people and the company does have an open door feeling. There are plenty of corporate initiatives and team building events that help you feel like more than just a number. Generally speaking, HITT is an innovative company with a solid reputation with their clients. HITT is also one of the few companies that can proudly say that during recessions/tough economic times they retain their employees. Whereas at other GC's if you're not on a project they'll let you go.

Cons

Leadership relies on their good reputation too much in weighing how much they should pay employees. They justify a below market rate by counting on the candidate wanting to work there over other General Contractors. This comes into effect when hiring (ex. someone may be a PM at one company but are only an APM to HITT Standards.) It is a highly political organization and definitely still has an "old boy network" feel to it. Decision making seems arbitrary based on a "pay your dues" system. Benefits are moderate at best but the healthcare plan is sub-par; the deductibles are incredibly high. Remote/Telework is not permitted and long hours are expected. In justification of the mediocre benefits they sell their bonus initiative program as a huge plus. Extra money is always nice but the pay out levels are vastly different; in order for it to really be a surplus ("bonus") you need to be a Senior PM or above.
