Pros

You deal with very nice people as well as get involved in an industry that should be supported. Greeting Cards are a great way to tell people you care, and that's what Hallmark is trying to show. I would never have shopped at Hallmark, but after working there, I can't imagine why I never did!

Cons

Sometimes there's just nothing to do. With the economy the way it is, people are spending less money on cards, and now inventory is done. We have no need to import so many goods, and sometimes I'll have days I just stand up front, or dust the store ALL DAY.

Pros

If you're looking for a place where you'll receive no respect from corporate, your boss, or from your customers. This seems like the right kind of atmosphere for a nice calm job. Check again. It's all about appearances. If you're ready to be micromanaged even down to the type of socks you're wearing, you'll love this job. Any job. Corporate Hallmark is run by extremely difficult people with hard heads that do not listen nor do they care about fairness, what will ACTUALLY work, or anything that may be important to their workers or their customers. If you like that kind of thing, feel free.

Cons

Corporate "Perfect store" list. A lick of dust in the store and you're in trouble. No matter who you are. This is a place where old ladies practically live, and certainly they aren't very nice. Hallmark honestly does it's best to manipulate their customers and to make customers feel guilty about not buying random people in their life cards and gifts. It will be your job, as any employee within a store, to go through the 5 steps called FIRST. F - friendly greeting to ALL customers I - investigate their needs (Bother them, no matter what they're doing. Ask questions, and beg for answers.) R- Recommend products (This means sell. A LOT. Or you're not doing your job. AND NO you don't get commssion. S - Sell ONE MORE CARD and seal the sale. (That means, sell more.) T - Thank and invite them back. Every time. And let me tell you, if you aren't doing this, even as an assistant manager, or manager, your boss will be angry.

Pros

The corporation themselves are very honest, and they have a straight-forward and fair approach to employee treatment. They have very generous employee discounts, and reasonable operating hours. The Boone, NC Hallmark in particular is a very close-knit group of people that have a good time working together, which in turn caters a pleasant atmosphere inside the store. The products themselves are very personal to the loyal customers, and therefore it is a very personal job with the opportunity to touch and change the lives of others.

Cons

The district managers are very hypocritical and hold extremely unrealistic standards. They cause unneeded stress among the store managers, and consequentially the store employees. Holidays are very hectic, and so the employees must be willing to forfeit holiday time to work.
