Company is not aware of what happens in the field.

Pros

I choose when and how long I will work, for the most part and up to a certain "time budget". It's a privately owned company so that we are not as affected by the stock market changes as some. The product is well known and considered high quality.

Cons

Cutting of hours and accounts. Also, immediate supervisor is lacking computer skills and still sends dozens of voice mails and sometimes even a voice mail to tell us she has sent an email. The senior supervisor seems to be unaware of how things really are in the field. Additionally, sales reps send in product that is unneeded and does not sell then does not allow us to write credit to take it out of the stores. Communication between management levels is lacking. Computer training should be beefed up. We are not allowed to get rid of merchandisers who are not up to par, but are chastised when those merchandisers perform poorly. Vacations were eliminated this year as was certain retirement benefits.

Pros

I did enjoy working for Hallmark, the customers are generally pleasant and if you work with fun exciting people the job can be very rewarding.

Cons

Management was terrible, the Manager did not know how to do her job. Her duties usually got passed on to the Assistant Manager, who in turn would refuse to do whatever it was being asked out of principle - that the Manager should know how to do her own job. It was very difficult to get time off. My grandfather passed away on Black Friday, I got the call during work but stayed the rest of the day, hoping I could have off to go to the viewing and funeral. I was wrong, I had to work during the viewing.

Pros

Hallmark is a fun place to work no matter how old you are. Some of the best people I have ever worked with are at Hallmark. There is always something to be done and you really get to know your customers as family and not just as a profit opportunity.

Cons

On the flip side the downside to working at Hallmark is it is a big corperation going through a lot distress. with the increase in e-cards the greeting card is becoming rarer and rarer, inturn it means the company doesn't have the momentum it once had. Don't expect to get a raise anytime soon unless you ask.... even then you might not get it.
