      Good company - Poor CEO

      Pros

      Clinical staff are very caring and conscientious and devoted to providing excellent care to pets and their pet families.

      Cons

      CEO is narcissistic. Within less than a year of his arrival, 2 of the 3 original founders of the company left and many others from the support center have been let go or forced out. If you disagree with any of his decisions or ideals your are marked and most likely your days will be numbered. When I was there, many individuals would not contribute during weekly staff calls for fear of retaliation. It was always the same group of insiders that would contribute and they would praise this guy. Tough way to run a company where they tell you we are all family. If your position is not directly involved in revenue generating your position is considered expendable if he thinks he can be replace with someone less experience and at a lower salary. If you consider working hear in a support center position, be aware that all your hard work will not stop you from getting replaced at his whim.

      Pros

      Startup experience, great team and collaboration, high standards for veterinary medicine. Very knowledgeable veterinarians.

      Cons

      Average pay and benefits, non-revenue-generating teams are undervalued and short-staffed. The CEO of the company is a micro-managing egomaniac who only cares about his opinion and wastes a ton on of resources on his unsuccessful pet projects. Other C-level executives don't have a say in business decisions. Toxic culture, high turnover, burnout.

      Best Place I've Worked

      Pros

      Being a small, young company, you get to see your impact immediately and daily. The exec board actually listens and cares about what other team members have to say. I think a lot of start-ups brag about a "family culture" when what that means is that you're expected to work 70 hour weeks; Heart + Paw actually delivers on that family culture by encouraging collaboration and caring about one another. CEO is very understanding of people's flexible work hours. Benefits are great for the most part. Everyone enjoys working together and has fun.

      Cons

      There is some cliquey-ness at the home office from folks who have been with the company since day one, but that can be expected anywhere.
