Pros
Heart + Paw has veterinary-led operations. This means you're not discussing your medicine with a leader lacks medical perspective. A high level of analysis and nuance are part of all of our decision making. Doctors and hospital leaders get to have informed conversations with true colleagues (i.e. another doctor) about how to meet hospital, personal, and professional goals through sustainable, quality medicine/care. There is a lot of freedom of daily practice as long as it fits within the filters of our corporate values (transparent, collaborative, trusting, empathetic, attentive) and quality medical practice. In addition, there is a definite respect for and focus on work-life rhythm as well as personal and team well-being. There is no perfect employer, and this is a great group of people who truly care for their teams and the future of the veterinary profession. I have previously recommended that personal friends and colleagues join us. I will continue to do so. This is a great place to work!
Cons
Like any practice, we're not perfect. Still, we are a good example of a commitment to continuous improvement. Change can sometimes be uncomfortable for people. While we do have corporate practices and policies, rigid structure is minimal. Some may not be comfortable with the degree of freedom this presents. In addition, we recently went through a strategy change. This resulted in a corporate restructuring and the loss of a handful of valued support-center colleagues. I recognize that this transition was necessary and responsibly done. That change and resulting restructuring was admittedly uncomfortable and/or disconcerting for some.
