Just another sales job

Pros

Commission + Overtime pay is nice. When and IF you make inbound it is non-stop calls with the opportunity to really cash out. Literally calls are non-stop all day. Be ready! (15 minute break twice a day, and a 30 minute lunch) Be ready!

Cons

At the end of the day this is just another sales job. Telemarketing in a very competitive/over-saturated industry. Some people claim they love the culture, but honestly working here is like being in a cult. A Big lime-green Humana cult. Agents are so tethered to their phones trying to make another dollar that most forget or simply abandon a life outside of work. It’s very evident as most agents and managers are all dating each other and rarely venture out of the Humana bubble that consumes them. Sales managers are pretentious and numb, and almost all of them come as failures from their previous careers and endeavors that they end up selling insurance for way longer than they should. Most managers encourage immoral (not illegal) sales practices (not all, but most of ‘em) and yes, that’s the nature of sales, but Medicare is not a product that should be ‘sold’ to begin with. It feels wrong changing older peoples plans and “selling” different plans to existing customers for the sake of call conversion. There are real people on the other end of the line whose lives are being torn apart just so we can meet our sales goals. Also, Dental insurance literally does not help most folks save. It’s really just a hindrance for people getting the work they really need done. Seriously look up dental insurance, it’s really sad.

Pros

The people are some of the nicest you'll meet.

Cons

The company continially states that they want to be innovative and agile but are incapable of maintaining focus on innovation and are imune to iterative improvement.

Pros

You can work in a value-based Medicare Advantage space.

Cons

Humana sounds like a great place to work when reading the website descriptions and marketing information. But once inside, it is like any other large corporation. CEO, Bruce Broussard, sends out a weekly e-mail to all employees which reads very well and for a moment you feel inspired to reach for the Bold Goal. However, the reality does not match the dream. Like any other company, your work experience is largely dictated by the supervisor before you and their behavior: toxic, microagressive, micromanaging, critical, etc. Humana does not sufficiently vet who is chosen for management roles to determine if they possess the qualities of a servant leader. Instead, people are plugged into roles who obviously satisfied a technical or emotional need of upper management without regard for who best to lead staff in their needs of growth and development, i.e. a seemingly high IQ is chosen without a matching EQ. Notice the use of the word management, in my time here I have not met a true leader but they like to call themselves “leadership.” Think twice about Humana before looking for a greener pasture.
