Pros

- Lots of challenges in varied areas (planning, feature development, infrastructure management, etc) - Very good compensation and benefits - Great team with a lot of talent (and I actually like them as people as well) - Very good office environment - Ability to work from home when I want - Great talent management and career options - Lots of opportunities for professional development - Good and no-nonsense tech stack - Our customers actually like us most of the time - Hack weeks! Pandamonium! Avocode!

Cons

- Lots of tech debt and backlog - RoR stack frustrating at times (but we're slowly migrating away from that) - Sometimes abrupt and unexpected changes in personnel on the US front - The usual throes of a startup migrating to an enterprise

Pros

It can be quite challenging to work on services used by tens of millions of students and educators all over the world. For a person who is willing to take on responsibility, I think Instructure can be a highly rewarding place to work at. It is amongst the highest paying software companies in Budapest, offers ESPP, company lunch on Wednesdays, private healthcare, fridges full of snacks and drinks, latest Macbook pro, Herman Miller chairs, also you can choose from remote/hybrid/in-office options

Cons

Instructure was acquired by Thoma Bravo and let lots of employees go back in 2020 to become a leaner organisation, negative reviews related to that still pulls down the public opinion of the company. On-call rotation can be unpleasant on smaller teams, although getting paged for most services are quite rare. Some teams are working on legacy things with older technologies, although e.g. one of the teams are currently replacing a Ruby service with Java, I think that's a nice initiative.
