Pros

J. Crew offers an amazing discount. Better, I believe, than most similar stores.

Cons

Customers are so demanding and hard to please. Always want some sort of discount and are very fast to complain. We usually go out of our way to please customers and sometimes it is never enough.

Pros

Every store has its own personality. I was very lucky to work in a very supportive store, where teamwork was paramount, however, our store management received little, if no support from above. This made communication of policies and procedures very sporadic and haphazard.

Cons

Working "outside of the box" is difficult. Given the current state of retail, the ability to provide superior customer service can be compromised by lack of staff.

Pros

I was in graduate school and worked another job when I worked at the J.Crew Somerset Collection. The managers were flexible with my schedule and never questioned my requests. The staff was helpful and courteous and I made some excellent friends at this store. Employees are rewarded for hard work and goal achievement and I was awarded employee of the week during the 2005 Holiday season. I was given an opportunity to choose any piece off the floor I wanted. All in all, I would recommend J.Crew to anyone interested in the fashion industry. Good products, good people, good company.

Cons

The downsides of working any retail position are commissions and sales goals. Normally kind and respectful people can become a bit territorial and step on toes in these situations. That part of it is not for me. I am not a confrontational person but occasionally ran into situations where other Client Specialists tried to "steal" my sale or work in my section of the store. I also didn't like that because of this "eagerness" many of the customers could tell it was a commission based job and were defensive when they walked in the door. This situation may deter some people from taking a job like this.
