Pros

The atmosphere at L.L. Bean is very friendly. There is never any pressure to sell anything to anyone. Everyone really cares about the customer. Lots of times the customers like to get in to conversations with you (they talk about the weather or ask your advice on clothing colors, etc.) There is no time limit on your phone conversations so there is no pressure to get off the phone with the customer. There is a fitness room and an onsite nurse at the call center.

Cons

Sometimes there are not a lot of hours available due to the increase in employees hired for the Christmas season.

Pros

Bean's is extremely family oriented; offers time off for various outdoor activities; avid supporter of conservation; extremely committed to the community; brand recognition and quality; superior customer service; steadfast on core values; diversified work force; privately held company; 100% guarantee; the ability to try new job assignments on a 'seasonal' basis

Cons

Tough atmosphere for advancement; although crosstraining is given lip service it is virtually impossible to accomplish it; new pay structure that eliminates yearly raises; inconsistency among mid-level management; not at all unheard of to perform multiple job functions throughout the course of the scheduled work day and then be spoken to for a lacking "UPH" (units per hour)

Pros

Great benefits and a good attitude towards work/life balance. So long as your aspirations aren't too great, you can be very comfortable at L.L.Bean for a long time.

Cons

Lots of people are overhired for their positions, and asked to perform very narrow tasks. Opportunities to learn new skills internally are limited. The company has a big enough wallet to hire exactly the talent they need externally and bring it to Maine. But don't come here thinking you're going to change the world. Many people get disillusioned by the conservative environment. Control and decision making is in the hands of too few senior managers. It is a extremely risk averse company.
