Staff Attorney: Good Job, No Frills, Excellent Experience
Pros
Managing attorney is very experienced, knows litigation, and is always willing to give mentor and give advice. Pay incentives are very decent and generous. Attorneys run their own docket. Attorneys actually go to trial! Staff in the Albuquerque office are great people, have a can-do attitude, and are team players! Work day is 8am - 5pm. Attorneys seem to rarely work weekends (unless in trial). Substantial civil litigation practice (depositions, motions, negotiations, etc.). Gain substantial and in depth experience defending cases under multiple theories. Working at Loya will harden your skills as an attorney and make you overall better professional!
Cons
The company has a well-earned reputation for being difficult whcih in turn makes the attorney's life difficult. The legal community, especially judges are leery of the company and do not give the benefit of the doubt. Claims will take hard-line positions on aspects of the case which can make defense difficult. Very few company-recognized holidays and very little paid time off. Defending only auto liability policyholder cases can become intellectually monotonous. The company sometimes struggles to pay vendors quickly. The result is vendors who refuse to work for the company.
