Pros

While Base Salaries are on the low side, company benefits are very competitive. 401K Matching is on par with industry averages. The office is located in La Mirada, CA off the 5 freeway which is freeway close and NOT in Downtown Los Angeles so traffic is typically light.

Cons

Poor Executive Management, Poor Employee Moral, Poor Salary Compensation, Poor Annual Increases (even with an excellent annual review), Poor Employee Purchase Policy - Employees pay full retail to Makita. They make more profit on sales to employees than they do on their customers. Unreasonable expectations on employees that work long hours and weekends for events who are required to use PTO time after working a 24 hour weekend and nearly 6 hours in 4 days. Company claims to be progressive yet they do not utilize ANY modern technologies to streamline processes.

Pros

Decent pay and quality tools

Cons

They are literally going to work us till we drop. We can’t keep up! Every other day something new and Covid didn’t help because now we have 12 virtual meetings a week. We should hire journalist for all of the reporting we have to do. When are we supposed to sell something. Managers throwing people under the bus. Managers taking credit when they never stepped one foot on the job site or even talked to the customer.

Pros

Autonomy, benefits package, most of the people

Cons

The problem with Makita is middle/upper management doesn't give a hoot what the average employee has to say. Input is regarded as complaining and treated as such. If you don't belong to the "boys" or "girls" club, you are just another number and are replaceable. They manage with the "lead by intimidation style" as others have mentioned. "You don't like it, we will find someone else - mentality". Its really pretty sad, this company could be so much more, and I don't feel it is the Japanese culture that is the problem here, but rather a few upper management snobs that think their proverbial you know what doesn't stink! And from a distributors point of view, extremely hard to work with. The marketing team works against the sales team. The customer service team thinks they are more important than the sales team, feel they have authority over such. The whole company needs some new leadership from the top down to structure it for success. Like I said before....it could be so much more!
