Pros

Everyone is friendly at the Michaels I work in. Nobody argues or shows any ill-feeling towards each other. The pay is decent, but I don't have any bills to pay, as I am in high school. I was hired during the Christmas season, so my hours were incredible then, but even now that business has slowed down, I still get a decent amount.

Cons

I was only trained for a few hours at the register. That was my only training experience. That's it. I was not given any information on anything other than how to do a transaction, how to run a return, and how to call a manager for help. I was not trained on anything else...I had to wait outside of the breakroom so someone would give me the passcode. I had to learn everything by myself through trial and error. I've been working there for three months now, and I still question things. Also, the email collection expectations cashiers are held to are totally ridiculous. Cashiers collect emails for the company during the transaction. Our goal is to get 15%- so 15 for every 100 customers. It seems like no problem. But nobody wants to give their email! Management uses this statistic (not how many customers you serve, or how effective you are as a cashier) when deciding how many hours you will get for the following week. I absolutely hate this system.

Pros

Getting to work around nice co-workers, helping customers with their craft projects, receiving special employee holiday discounts, and getting to demo products that come in

Cons

None of the bathroom supplies were ever restocked despite several notifications over months (cleaner, gloves, soap, napkins, vomit powder, etc..), rule exceptions for only certain employees ( i.e. letting some dye their hair, letting some choose a register regularly, letting some not show up without consequences, etc..), not being alerted to last minute on the job schedule changes, not being paid for hours you were asked to stay later, Cleaning bathrooms without supplies, having stealing issues with suspicions taken on employees instead of activating cameras.
