Pros

Most of the time the customers are wonderful to work with. I enjoy my position and the freedom I have to do my job without too much supervision. I love getting to merchandise the store to make it appealing to both the customers and the employees. Most of the employees I work with are wonderful and supportive of each other. In spite of all that is going on with the "STORE OF THE FUTURE" changes, the management has been very helpful, and seems to be doing a great job in helping us to adjust to the changes. Or product selection is incredible, classes are pretty good, and for the most part working at Michaels is fun. I have recommended emploment at Michaels to quite a few people inlcuding family members since I have been employed.

Cons

Number one complaint is the pay!!! It's lousy. I have many years experience in my field, and am not being compensated any where near what I bring to the company. I also would like to be able to worship on Sundays at church with my family, but Michaels FORCES any full time employee to work at least every other weekend or else they are not guaranteed full time. I have tried to get them to let me work every Saturday and have Sundays off, but they won't do it. My other specific complaint is that full time is supposedly 35 hours and above, but they schedule you for these times and then take out all your 1/2 hour lunch breaks which actually takes 2.5 hours off your supposed full time hours, while the paper schedule says one thing, the reality is different.

Pros

Good company if your career goals are short term and limited.

Cons

Promotions are given based on who you know - not what you know. Company decisions are made based on monetary value to the company, without regard to associate helth or comfort. Store associates a required to work in hot temptures without benefit of air conditioning at a tolerable level. High job performance and investment by associates is taken advantage of with 80-100 hour work weeks at the salaried level.
