Pros

The manager is the best I've had. She takes the time to make me feel valued. When I bring up a problem with her, she at the very least makes me feel heard and respected. I like the culture and get along with my coworkers. As far as I can tell, that seems true for most other people there. You get 30% employee discount and are surrounded by artists and art supplies. Sometimes you get a commission-based bonus. Michaels will teach you how to frame. It's challenging work in an engaging way. Hours are very flexible for part time employees. Everyone gets access to free online doctors and a support hotline. There is a path to become a manager if you're willing to have an entirely open availability.

Cons

Pay and accommodations. You start at minimum wage and raises are small. Commission is small and only comes if you meet an arbitrary goal that moves around each month. This environment is not very friendly to people who need to sit for part or all of their shifts, including for tasks that don't require standing. It took months for one employee to be given a place to sit recently. That being said, Michaels does hire quite a bit of people with disabilities and hasn't forsaken DEI yet.

Pros

Great coworkers, 30% discount, frame shop is actually really fun to work in, very accepting of lgbt+ and minorities

Cons

Not paid a living wage, barely getting any hours, workload has increased exponentially since Party City and Joann's are going out of business, yet corporate has decided to cut our hours drastically and we sometimes have two people to run the whole building on busy weekends, no one is getting trained properly
