Michaels is average.

Pros

Michaels offers health, vision, and dental benefits. They also offer a 401k plan. Michaels offers paid vacation, sick time, and one personal holiday a year.

Cons

Michaels considers part time to be about four hours a week. The manager job duties don't actually line up with the actual job duties. Michaels only closes on Christmas and Easter; they are open all other holidays. The style of management varies greatly from store to store. Michaels pay is not very competitive.

Pros

The people you work with are fun, and like family. the tasks daily are usually easy. its not really a "job" its really more of small tasks to help daily functions due to Over staffing issues. (at times understaff) but still tedious tasks..

Cons

the hours suck, the pay isn't worth the drive for your shift. Most of the customers ask you things they already know.. so look out, they snap if you are wrong...the company sets standards but expects you to go way above them, with little time, and also little training. "even when they have given you time" the raises are like returning pop cans to the store.. about one a year...

Pros

Flexible first job, topical job for art student. Studied under very skilled framers who've become good friends. However, after these persons left for other opportunities management didn't hire qualified individuals.

Cons

As a first job, I was thrilled to begin as a floor associate at $6.50 per hour in 2005. After being with the company for 5 years, the last two as a certified custom framer, I was making $8.50. As a student that's well and good, but several employees with families were making little more. Management usually hid in the office, and sale leads didn't have defined roles. Framers are told that payroll hours come from sales and production, yet we receive no additional hours from exceding goals. Far too few associates on staff, and very little overlap in framing. If you take orders all day by yourself, no production gets done, which leads to unhappy customers and botched rush jobs.
