Pros

good start up salary here in beijing, good working environment

Cons

everything else a lot of VPs, directors try to prove their existence, projects progress slowly too big plans for start up projects to catch with the market. massive lay off, close beijing R&D center less than 4 years from the opening day. lots of engineers fired but left a lot of VPs: "cut the muscle leave the fat"

Formerly strong company destroying itself from the inside

Pros

After layoffs, the mass attrition has started

Cons

The problems within this once great company start at the top. The CEO has been absentee for what seems like a few years and as soon as he perceives something is wrong, he steps in and blows everything up. His choices for change are bizarre and way too drastic, but he is surrounded by the ultimate "yes men" lawyers who are either scared to say no to him or don't know any better. I would tend to say they don't know any better because none of the people in the CEO's inner circle have ever run a business or sold anything. The CEO is also hung up on his "pet projects". He puts so much money into these dead-end projects that the quarterly numbers look poor to him. Instead of retooling the applications or slowing down, he decides that the business is at fault and goes on a rampage of lay-offs. Not one round, multiple rounds and hidden ones as well telling people to move to the Corporate Headquarters or be let go. The executives at MicroStrategy has lost touch with the "common employee". Laying off hundreds and hundreds of people off but having an executive chef prepare extravagant meals for the C and VP level people daily only fuels the animosity of the employee base. One of the worst business decisions they made was to eliminate the corporate mobile phone policy for all employees forcing them to go get a plan for themselves but offering no reimbursement for anyone. They have no idea the damage done to them in the marketplace with the awful decision alone. The executives have no exposure to the employees and seem to hide on the executive floor to stay incubated from reality. This is a truly sad state of affairs for the company, a company on the brink.

Never a dull moment

Pros

The products are good, many middle management are talented and hard working despite the conditions. Compensation can be decent and there are opportunities to make career changes if you look for them.

Cons

The company continues to act like a dot.com, making flash decisions without considering the long term repercussions. Morale is low and the lower ranks have lost faith in upper management. Middle management feels un-empowered and directionless.
