Management is a huge and the biggest problem here, when I first got to Mimecast the management team was experienced, had closing experience, and they were able to help you out effectively. But as time went on the mangers either got promoted to a new position or they left the company.
All of the current managers on the BDR team have no closing experience and they were only BDR's for about a year, one in particular less than a year then got gifted a promotion. They have no experience and want to prove to their superiors that they are fit for the position and this is simply not good for business. For an example, a group of new hires came in and one of the managers was cold calling with the team and when they finally got a prospect on the phone he hung up and told the new hire that he didn't think that guy was going to answer the phone. The managers will do whatever it takes for them to look good just by hitting volume numbers. One of the managers even assigned his team to read an entire book at home and made his team have a quiz on the book like we were still in college. Most of the new managers were either friends or family with the managers so they literally got handed the best territories to succeed and hit their numbers by strictly emailing people and getting meetings for the Enterprise reps who always give credit to their BDRs.
If you choose to join Mimecast as a BDR you better hope you are on the Enterprise, up-sell, or inbound side of things. If you are stuck in the mid-market or the small business side of the program, all I can say is good luck to you.
The management team is not liked by most of the employees but everyone is scared to speak their mind because once you do, you are simply putting a target on your head and that will put a big road block in your career path . They will find ways to get you on a performance plan or not invite you to any events and have you feel like you aren't a part of the team that has potential to become a rep.
Mimecast was great at first but as time went on I became to feel miserable as a BDR. The best part of Mimecast BDR team was the director of the BDR team Rich, but he has gotten promoted and doesn't work directly with the BDR team anymore.
There are better companies that will provide you much better training to become an account executive which should be your main goal going into this position.
If you want a job where can act like you are working hard and you can make a decent paycheck but do not really care about self progression then Mimecast might be for you considering all of the benefits that they do give you while working.
Choose your career path wisely.
