Senior Leadership Team is completely aloof

Pros

Fully remote, great benefits, no-meeting Fridays. There are some great people to work with.

Cons

The senior “leadership” team is a massive con that creates a cascade of other cons. They operate completely disconnected from the business which perpetuates siloes. They don’t take ownership of their own poor decisions or failures (it’s always someone else’s fault and then they just lay them off). Their actions show they don’t value employees and treat us like workhorses instead of humans. They make short sighted decisions that lead to having another round of layoffs (we have had 4 this year). They are not visible and don’t take part in any company programs (like virtual events, ERGs, trainings). They barely communicate to the organization (we only see SLT in a monthly “All Hands” that just a Q&A). They say one thing and do another (like putting a pause on promotions yet turning around and still promoting their favorites). They don’t acknowledge or take any action on company feedback surveys. They don’t actually LEAD their departments or cultivate collaboration across the company. I could go on. I used to love it here, but things have gone down hill very rapidly with a senior leadership team like this. Sadly there is no accountability on them and pressure on everyone else.

Pros

Great team of AppDev experts. Decent company-wide culture, benefits, and flexibility when times are good.

Cons

All year in 2023, senior leadership frequently shared overly-optimistic updates on fundraising progress, asking employees to be patient while their pending promotions or pay raises were put on hold as the dates kept getting pushed back, only to fail by the end of the year with another rosy outlook for the year ahead then waiting until the New Year to begin laying off hardworking employees in a sudden U-turn. The CEO was also apparently unaware that Sales had failed to adapt to selling AppDev's services, which are fundamentally different from those of the wider org. This was made clear to all in a late-2023 All-Hands town hall exchange between the CEO and AppDev's head. Put these together and the AppDev team, who were acquired by Mission relatively recently, began suffering cuts with more to likely to come. Big changes to their offering are also likely that will negatively impact those remaining due to Sales' inability or unwillingness to adapt, and leadership has yet to take any accountability for the failures themselves.

We appreciate your candid feedback regarding your experience over the last year. We understand that these recent business decisions have affected individuals who remain in our company and those who will not be continuing on in our journey. Organizational adjustments are an unfortunate aspect of managing a business and navigating through business changes. We want to assure you that these decisions were not made lightly and that the well-being of our employees remains a high priority. Our goal is to provide a great customer experience while ensuring employees have an equally great experience. Your feedback is invaluable. We'd love to speak with you further about any other insights and suggestions you feel comfortable providing. Please reach out to us directly on the People & Culture team. We believe in collaboration, and innovation can only come from it.

Downhill Spiral

Pros

Good benefits, remote work, great people

Cons

Once a quickly growing company with a lot of potential, Mission is on a sad downward spiral. Layoffs have been rampant for the past year, and good talent that carries a lot of knowledge has left Mission, willingly and un-willingly. There is no focus on customers or employees, only on profit, leading to most of the learning and development team being laid off, no raises, promotions, or backfills. There is money somehow throw lavish parties in Las Vegas for the sales teams with expensive entertainment (Flo Rida, Ludacris), in the midst of layoffs and budget cuts. The optics are not good. Each person is expected to do the job of multiple people. At one point Mission had close to 400 employees, now it has less than 280, with a lot of outsourced contractors. DE&I used to be a priority for Mission but that is no longer a priority - there are no senior leaders or directors (aside from one) that are not white males. Finding new investors is the focus. The senior leadership team does not take accountability and does not know how to properly lead a company, and there is no indication of a plan moving forward. They embrace and embody the notion that all employees are expendable.

Thank you for sharing such comprehensive feedback. We hear your concerns about the challenges around recent organization restructures, company focus, and leadership visibility. Your perspective on the need for prioritizing employee support, and clear communication regarding our future direction is invaluable, especially as we continue to refine our strategy and priorities. Events like Mission IGNITE are key lead-generating and go-to-market activity for engaging customers and prospects, that drive a return on investment for the rest of the year. It's understandable that spending money on these events may seem contradictory from the surface, however it drive our ability to connect with prospective clients. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and concerns. We understand that internal restructures and business decisions can be challenging to process, and we genuinely appreciate you taking the time to share how this has impacted you. Adjustments like these are part of our efforts to align with business goals, though we understand they can be difficult. However, these choices are guided by strategies designed to support the company’s goals. Please know that every decision is made with careful consideration of our employees and the future of our organization. Thank you again for your contributions and for voicing your thoughts on ways we can improve. Your feedback is instrumental as we focus on building a stronger path forward for Mission and our team members.
