Pros

The clients. They're the only people at NAFI who sometimes appreciate what you do.

Cons

The pay is terrible. Constantly under-staffed with absolutely zero support from management. The office in Farmington, CT is a sexist clique full of employees who undermine those they do not value. They do not care about you if you do not work in that office. Direct support staff is a rotating door, every month people quit in droves. Why? Management and poor pay. Everyone I worked with hated management. When Covid impacted the working environments. Again, zero support from management. They will botch your performance reviews to ensure they don't have to pay you more. The responsibility of the job deserves higher wages for what is expected. They hide behind the premise that they can't pay you more because they're a non-profit. They're a million-dollar business that pays the executives and administration liveable wages, the expendable staff get paid peanuts. Do not work here, avoid it. Direct support positions not paying $25+ an hour must be avoided. You have such a level of responsibility over clients that needs to be compensated fairly. Do not settle for anything left. These companies are running out of people to hire, hence why they no longer ask for college degrees in these positions. They're desperate, hence why it's ALWAYS understaffed, and since those in the office never leave it to help with understaffing on locations speaks volumes. It's their responsibility to hire people. They do not because they take advantage of those living paycheck to paycheck who cannot leave their job. If they treat the employees with this amount of negligence and disregard, imagine how they treat the clients.

Repor between management and direct care staff could be a lot better. Management listening to concerns from staff better.

Pros

You get to build healthy relationships with clients and encourage them to succeed in life.

Cons

Horrible management; very unprofessional , gossip between staff, no support to staff from management, no true support to residents. If you are looking for a job where you can impact lives and help people and go further in life this is not the company. All they care about is keeping beds filled and money. And if you are looking for a job where you can excel in this is not it unless you are willing to go against your morals, values and become someone you’re not for money.
