Pros

Good pay and lots of positions in different states

Cons

NGIC has a corporate culture of men that don’t look at women as equal. The problem is that about 4 years ago they acquired the company I worked for called Direct General and Direct was started by and has been managed by women since day one. NGIC recently closed the Direct General call center in Baton Rouge, LA that employed a more women than their other offices. They laid us all off. Many of us had worked there for 10 - 20 years. They did not give us the opportunity to move to other positions in the area unless we apply as new hires and start all our benefits from scratch. The saddest part was that they felt felt it was necessary to hire a troup of armed guards and post several Baton Rouge police officers in the parking lot when they came into our office to make the announcement. All of the other NGIC offices are ran by men and employ more men than women so maybe they don't know that women have more dignity and class than the tactless crude men that they sent to close our office. These men and their armed guards bullied us out of the office. They glared at us and pointed making us feel like criminals who were looting the place. They showed no tact and no compassion even though we were were loyal employees for many years. They did not treat the men who were laid off with us the same way. The few men who worked there were allowed to go out go back in to get all their possessions. Women who tried to go back in were stopped at the door by the armed guards and told they would have to fed ex the rest of their possessions. This was the only NGIC call center that was managed by and employed a majority of women. NGIC is a culture of men who treat women differently. Other coworkers and I have felt this way for years and this is the ultimate proof. For many years the office had one unarmed security guard to protect us when leaving after dark but the manly men who came to close down the office felt they needed a troup of armed guards and police to keep them safe from a few women in Baton Rouge.

Pros

Great coworkers, very lax PTO policy, flexible schedule

Cons

My company was bought by National General and the workload quadrupled but the pay remained the same. National General employees at other locations performing the same role are paid thousands more. Starting pay at my location is $12 an hour. They max out your workload every month so the workload is unattainable. This place is a sweatshop. If you're competent, they take advantage of you and give you more difficult work but without a pay increase or any other benefit to you. The raises here are a joke. You cannot complain about anything or it will affect your monthly review, which affects your tiny raise. So you have to take everything they dish at you with a smile on your face. Management is unorganized and makes changes that were not well thought out and it falls back on you. Training is insufficient and rushed but you are penalized if a mistake is made. They don't treat you like a human and expect you to behave like a Stepford wife. I wouldn’t recommend this job to anyone. Only work here if you’re in between jobs and desperate.

Pros

Claims Managers - 80% are approachable, helpful, flexible and understanding Co-Workers - great we all know how bad our jobs suck so most people are friendly Paid holidays and Vacation is above avaerage

Cons

They literally do not care about claims adjusters. EVERY year or like this year TWICE a year increase work volume by 12-25% and do not compensate adjusters for it (not to mention work load was already impossible to manage prior to this increase) and they make the metrics more difficult to attain each year, which discourages people who actually care about their work quality. Given what I said above they also could careless about their customers. They expect you to be a high functioning robot. I am a hard worker but there comes a point when it’s literally impossible. Seasoned adjusters are crying at their desks or nightly when they leave. The pay would be a pro but it is actually a con they hire kids straight out of college or with associates degrees and most of them get trapped because they can’t leave and make comparable money. Money is not the root of happiness, at least not here. People have left for 10K pay cut or quit with nothing lined up because they physically can’t take the stress any longer. Also, don’t mention how upset you are because you may end up fired for “bad mouthing the company”...and once you are in their crosshairs they’ll find a reason to fire you even if you have been there for 25 years. Imagine the most stressed, frustrated and overwhelmed you have ever been in your life times that by 100,000 and that is how you feel every day (if you care about your work quality and your customers).
