Pros

Effective management and nurses, interesting patients, some solid coworkers, decent/good benefits for full-time, union, schedule is at least consistent for full-time staff, lots of opportunities for OT. Tend to hire in house staff for positions if you become more qualified while working there (i.e. will hire an MHS as a nurse once they get their license).

Cons

High acuity with sometimes poor staffing, you get guilt-tripped if you call off for being sick. Potential for drama with coworkers. Pay should be higher for the amount of danger you're putting yourself in and the stress/trauma that you're bound to encounter. Very little engagement from higher-ups in the company (those above the nurse managers, CEO seems not to value or care about the inpatient hospital. Depending on what floor you're on/ which shift you work, you may not get any interaction with other members of the patients' care team, such as their doctors or social workers and this can cause a significant disconnect between different staff. MHS's input is often undervalued.

Pros

Benefits and Nothing More. Period.

Cons

Inconsistent, ever changing policies. Poor/dangerous working conditions. Working with drug addicts whom Supervisors and upper Management coddle and look at as special projects while allowing them to continue working as mentors to Clients. The smell (inpatient). There are some amazing workers who go above and beyond to make the Clients feel safe and cared for but their efforts often overshadowed by others who are lazy and passive aggressive towards everyone which contributes to a hostile environment.

An agency more concerned with politics than clients

Pros

Generous PTO, health care benefits.

Cons

Clients in the program are not in need of the range of service provided, yet the supervisor is unwilling to exit people who are no longer in need of services. Staff regularly threatens clients with re-hospitalization for medication refusal, despite the clients not being on an LRO, which is unfair and does not respect the clients right to choose the course of their treatment. Supervisor is unwilling to address issues with coworkers and lets them fester for far too long, creating a hostile work environment. Systems for client documentation are stuck in the 1990s, clunky and difficult to use with no training given to staff upon hire. There is no centralization in time sheets, incident reporting, work orders and many different programs have to be used to accomplish a single task. No ability to move out of current positions, and employees are stuck working in the same job for decades. Senior management is completely disconnected from the staff and seem more concerned with politics, mergers with other agencies and looking good to the media instead of the well being of the staff and clients. There is a sense of subtle racism in hiring and which clients are selected for certain residential programs, Navos has a mostly white staff despite working with many people of color in the outpatient mental health programs. The mission statement and values sound great on paper, but they're rarely seen put into practice in programs.
