Great workplace, go in, get your work done, good opportunity to make friends.

Cons

After working there for a while, I began realizing that there are high tensions between people, for whatever reason, including management. Although there are good people, they suffer because of the attitudes of others.

Pros

Great learning environment when allowed to participate in cutting edge research.

Cons

Extremely hostile work environment in an agricultural setting. Females treated unequally compared to male counterparts. Satellite/ Remote locations are not accountable to Las Cruces staffed supervisors. Very ineffective union. Obligatory deductions for retirement taken without prior notification and they increase if your salary increases, as do the medical contributions. So, no real way to get ahead while working there. Educated staff not valued.

Pros

I was able to get the GREG fellowship, which is an in house scholarship that provides 3 years of funding. Securing this has helped me feel secure financially as I know my advisor can't just drop me now. This also affords me more time to focus on research and writing.

Cons

There are some good researchers here if you look but most are mediocre. Definitely not a ton of high profile research being conducted here. Oh and no health care benefits for grad students.
