Pros

From the day I started at Notion I knew I'd made a good choice - the company is such an impressive assemblage of passionate, smart, kind, collaborative people, who are both extremely invested in building Notion's product vision as well as a sustainable company. Since I've been here I've had easy and direct access to executive staff members who have always made me feel safe and heard. I've had the ability to work on problems that are interesting and challenging to me up and down the technical/product stack. I genuinely enjoy my team and coworkers and the vision towards which Notion is building.

Cons

Notion is in hypergrowth, and as such, has some of the standard problems that come along with it - processes, especially around product development, that are either too light from when the company was smaller, or too heavy for where the company wants to be.

Pros

Incredible product and community. Working on a product that I love and use every day is a dream come true. Interesting and challenging work. The types of projects and work here are really important to growing a successful business. I've grown so much as an engineer here and am really proud of what I've worked on. Incredible potential. Notion has been very thoughtful about its growth and now it's acting on it. The market for the "all-in-one workspace" is limitless. It's exciting to be a part of it and feel that my work can have an impact. Investment in Diversity and Inclusion. While I always think there could be more done here, I'm impressed with the commitment to "Affinity Groups" at Notion. If you are in an underrepresented group or an ally, there are groups that meet regularly to promote and find support within their group. Great engineering leadership. The team has hired some key leadership hires since I've been here. There's a lot of fantastic people leading the product team and mentoring engineers. Fantastic benefits. I don't know what additional benefits I really need from a company. Highly competitive salaries and perks. The offices (in all locations) are really thought out and provide a lovely place to work.

Cons

Company and product is constantly growing. Processes and team structure are regularly shifting, especially on the engineering team, so if you want a place that has everything "figured out", this is not the place for you. In-Office requirement (hybrid). While Notion has been largely remote for the past 2 years, our leadership team, and CEO in particular, really value in-office collaboration. While I personally enjoy coming in to an office (and have immediately seen the benefits having while onboarding new hires), I understand that this can limit us in a lot of ways. Leadership wants us to come in certain days of the week officially starting this summer, but I come in more because I like the office. Onboarding can be tricky, though LOTS is being done to address this. The codebase is very custom and homegrown. It's being optimized by a focused team now, but TypeScript + Notion conventions and tools has been one of the steeper learning curves I've ever had while onboarding into a codebase.

Pros

The collaboration among engineers is incredible. Notion has done a great job of building a culture of service and collaboration. There are some incredibly talented people working at Notion that it has been an honor to work with.

Cons

Performance reviews are not as useful as I'm used to since there are no levels currently at Notion, but they are working on it!
