Pros

Patch was AMAZING under AOL's leadership. They knew the people who worked for the company is what made it special.

Cons

It speaks to a company when their first act of business is to let go of 75% of the staff. And to add insult to injury for those of us who were on the call after lay off's occurred, having Hale's leadership laugh to themselves and crack jokes about "finally being a profitable company" and having their managers re-enforce that logic to the staff was ridiculous. Hale and his group have NO idea what made Patch special. They only care about bottom line, not the people. They had amazing people quit the company and rather than find out what they could've done better, they decided to ignore the situation.

Weren't afraid to take risks, creatively change positions.

Cons

Were afraid to admit when risks didn't pan out, refused to acknowledge problems/issues that arose with said risk-taking. Obviously more profit-focused than journalistically-focused. Absolutely zero respect for work/life balance at any level. They want to work you until you burn out and then replace you with someone cheaper.

Pleasant atmosphere, nice people, serious journalists. Flexible schedule and nice events and occasional free food.

Cons

Management disconnect with New York national desk being run from Chicago. Patch preaches coaching employees and giving them the opportunity to thrive, but some are let go suddenly with no explanation. No performance reviews. Anonymous 360 reviews breed paranoia.
