Pros

Some great people work in this organisation who deliver some great initiatives to engage customers and drive business. Very stable, mid-performance, many benefits for employees and lots of opportunity to move around within the business, even to different countries.

Cons

Tends to be very inward looking using terminology that means nothing to customers - reflective of old traditional values of the business. Recent reorganisation aims to change that and develop a customer focussed high performance culture but has largely overlooked individuals outside the UK heartland and failed to address the shortcomings in supplier relationships. No tangible link between compensation and performance. Tends to have an 'adult-child' philosophy to its employees which can feel stifling. Despite a clear strategy internally, still not clear about their identity externally, trying to sell everything to everyone rather than clear target markets and customers.

Pros

The company has great potential and is well respected in the industry. Senior management's heart is in the right place, however, are easily distracted to new projects/initiatives without really bedding down previous changes.

Cons

Senior leaders although aware of need for global diversity to grow business tend to remain UK centric. Recent "globalization" initiative is case in point. Revamped senior leadership team is UK centric and anglo saxon culturally. Viewed as "colonialist" in operations outside the UK. Lacks gender and ethnic balance in senior management team. Human Resources systems are archaic. Technology is focused on business processes, appropriate given nature of business, however, as employee adds little enhancement to day to day productivity.

Pros

Overall a good company to work for with decent benefits and working environment. I was involved in lots of interesting projects and was part of a great team with a line manager who had some people management skills and actually did seem to care about us. Until he got another position internally, and couldn't get out of the door fast enough....

Cons

First, let me say that there are some good line managers at ElectroComponents, however when my previous line manager left (internal move), the replacement couldn't care less about my development or offering any kind of support or guidance whatsoever. You really do need to watch your work colleagues too, some team members who have been there a long time seem to think they have a right to be promoted, and will tread on anyone to get it, not caring if their actions have a negative impact on others. One last point, unless you are classed as a 'high potential', you can forget about progression. High potentials are essentially the line manager's favourites, and are fast tracked on the manager development programme. Although strangely, there don't seem to be any people management elements to this programme...
