Pros

Open PTO policy, good benefits. The benefits are why I stay, you won't find these anywhere else. Pay is low, but supposedly that is going to be fixed later this year. We'll see.

Cons

This place is dramatic. Every time there's a negative post on here, it's brought up in a team meeting so management can figure out who wrote it. Well, let's start the next witch hunt! Moral is low, turnover is high and there's an obvious reason for both. Leadership continues to put the wrong people into management. Like other reviews have said, promotions and opportunities are based on popularity, not actual skill. We have managers and directors with no experience and no one mentoring them to remedy this problem. We keep putting band aids on the moral problem, like posting compliments on white boards or getting different food in the break room. People aren't upset and leaving because they couldn't get the chips they wanted at the office. People leave companies because of poor management. The people who are in management don't manage anything, they just pass down orders. Working here you're not a "valued employee," you're a worker. Do what you're told without question or new ideas and you'll go far. Dress trendy and hang out with your boss on the weekends and you'll get promoted. There is this really great leadership program, but only the popular people get into it. To apply you just answer written questions. No in person interview. Then a team of previous years participants decide who should be included this year. And don't you worry, the fact that you dress professionally but not super trendy will be held against you. With a growing company of over 300 people, I'm not sure how this could possibly be fair or unbiased without managers of applicants being involved and an in person portion. Not to worry! Just like you were told last year, there's always next year! Third time is a charm!

We can appreciate the time you took the write such a thorough review. Thanks for doing that. I'd like to touch on a couple points you made. You're right about the PTO policy and benefits. They are pretty exciting perks of working here. It appears the leadership program you're referring to is the HPLP or High Potential Leadership Program. You're correct in saying that written questions are answered and then reviewed. However, this is only the first step in being accepted into the program. Once the written essays are reviewed there is then a formal, in-person interview process. These interviews include the candidates for HPLP meeting with 3 of our ELT members and/or other leaders in the organization. The applicant's manager is also involved in the process in that they need to formally approve their employee for the program. This happens at the very beginning of the process even before the essays are written. We would certainly be happy to go through the process with you in more detail if you'd like. Please feel free to reach out at recruitment@reliaslearning.com or you're free to discuss directly with me as well, dstella@reliaslearning.com. Thanks again for your detailed review. David Stella.

Micromanaged, Lack of Trust, Overworked, Underpaid, Favoritism, Harassment

Pros

321 coffee, great colleagues, flexible work life balance

Cons

If you are in Content Development, you WILL be micromanaged. They say you have unlimited PTO but it’s not actually true and salaried employees are forced to timestamp every minute of their day (which NO other company does this within the industry, and if they do, they don’t actually care about their employees well being and mental health, and show they don’t trust their employees.) Leadership will choose favorites, and if leadership makes a mistake, they will throw you under the bus and make it look like you’re being difficult. They will then sabotage every opportunity to help you grow and lay you off. Even though it was said in an All Hands Company Meeting that the executives and department heads won’t tolerate “office politics” and to “feel free to share if you’re being harassed or discriminated against”, it seems that anyone who’s made a complaint against a leader or a “favorite employee” was laid off. Yes we can piece everything together. Former employees in this last layoff also realized that the majority of the layoffs were geared towards people who are in a marginalized community. Relias says they “serve the most vulnerable population” by truly not caring about the most vulnerable population within their own company. Read this statement again. They DO NOT care about their employees. Further, they tried to be “open” about the salaries people were getting paid last year, but then realized quickly how angry people got when people saw discrepancies (for example: employees with the most laborious and productive jobs were getting wildly underpaid compared to those we saw standing around chatting and being unproductive for most days in the office to include leadership.) And then we saw the further mismanagement of money when Relias was spending money on all these “perks” to come to the office or “employee appreciation” while underpaying and laying off employees. Also BTW modern companies let employees have the day off for employee appreciation AND ALL federal holidays off. Run from this company and don’t look back.

Culture of fear

Pros

I loved the people I worked with, just not the direction management was going.

Cons

There's a toxic culture of fear. Relias prides itself so much on DEI that the some employees fear they've hit the glass ceiling and will be laid off based on the lack of color in their skin, yet the German CEO joked on a monthly call that he was going to eat a watermelon for Juneteenth. As an engineer, their learning management application was so ridiculously overengineered that nobody could figure out how it works and the pace of innovation was non-existent. Relias has a stated core vale of "healthy debate" yet employees are not encouraged or allowed to speak up or innovate.
