If you’ve recently been laid off or are desperate for a job, then you will be able to clear your low bar for success by taking a job at Rocket Lawyer. You will receive a regular paycheck for your services, and most positions do not require working late nights or weekends. If you expect to flourish in your career, accelerate your professional growth, receive any sort of mentorship, or feel pride in your work, then you should continue your job search. Leadership is nonexistent. Within my first year, almost all of tech leadership vanished, apologizing on their way out for leaving the engineers behind to fend for themselves. A promising new CTO was hired to turn things around, and he too left in a matter of months. More departures followed, and the engineering team at this “tech” company became a skeleton crew trying to keep things afloat with loads of tech debt and an outdated stack. I was shuffled around to four different teams during my employment, and not one team completed a meaningful project. Just before a feature was set to launch, it would get shelved by a c-level exec. I’ve seen other reviews that include too many unflattering details get removed. There are dozens of cautionary tales I wish I could share. Suffice to say, please be careful. Join this company at your own risk.

Most critically: Toxic atmosphere all the way from the top to the bottom. And very much in that direction too. I'm lucky enough to have never been the explicit target of bullying which makes what I have to say all the more important. I saw it happen around me, constantly and I say this not from a place of anger but from a place of genuine concern. You will come to hate the politics. The "shut up" mentality. The all around disrespect. Exceptional people, led by an aggressive bully who has surrounded himself with dancing yes-folks determined to take credit for the work of people that work incredibly hard. --- The product itself is, if we are gentle and honest at best; is sh*t. You will not be doing the best work of your career here. The product is dated, and it makes money. There is a true lack of imagination and creativity into what this service can and should offer. Instead, time is spent chasing the latest shiny thing (or explaining why that shiny thing is late because of so much noise) that rather than actually delivering anything of consequential value. Instead, you will spend your time continuously patching and adding feature churn to the same, dated, slow and underwhelming product that they've relied upon for years. This is the kind of product a tech company purchases under the guise of an employee benefit they can offer when they have a little too much budget left over. Don't except to excel in your career here. That's reserved for those who either have the time to put on a good show and take the credit of others, or who have excellent skills in nodding their heads.
