Pros

Great stepping stone into a fire department or ambulance company

Cons

Corporate culture lacks engagement with field crews. Lots of drama and politics for sub-par pay and crappy working environment, welcome to private EMS.

Pros

They'll hire almost anyone. They offer a benefits package. The equipment is maintained. They pay slightly above federal minimum wage. The employees are, for the most part, great to work with.

Cons

They never certified me in CPR or EMD although I was required to take 911 calls. They fired 5 employees in 6 months because they refused to take a 55-60% pay cut and demotion after 15-20 years of service with the company. I was fired for comments I made that included my job title and the company's name in a FB post to my state senator. They care more about making a profit than they do about their employees. Although they started a Town Hall Meeting where employees could share their views about the company with the senior manager, he really didn't care. Senior management has their own advisers and don't really care what the employees on the street actually doing the job think. Communication between management and employees is nearly non-existent. The company pays more than $2 less the national average starting pay for EMTs and Dispatchers.

Pros

Some of the staff/field employees were tolerable. They'll also hire you simply for having a pulse and If you know how to count to ten you'll be crew chief in no time.

Cons

Pay is god awful ($9.00/hr) Crews are often required to stay 2 hours past their off time during high call volume times. Always short on supplies and the one we did have were often expired. The trucks are constantly breaking down/out of service. Dispatch often keys up on the radio with on average 3 oreos in their mouth. All of management has a combined IQ of 16 and occasionally the bosses like to dance under the sheets with field employees.
