Upper Management Needs To Pay Attention

Pros

Company is growing Individual managers are great with their teams and really listen to what is needed/try and do their best to create change Stability Overall culture is ok

Cons

low pay- one of SPS' core values is that employees come first however that is not reflected in how employees are compensated. Anyone who isn't at the senior level is paid well below the industry standard even though the company is constantly talking about how we have added another consecutive quarter of growth. It's hard to be excited about another quarter of growth when you know that nothing will be reflected in your compensation and the only people benefiting are at the senior level. lack of transparency/beginning to create a toxic culture when it comes to working remote- upper management still claims that we are "working remote" however people are shamed if they decide to not attend company meetings in person and part of this shaming comes from the company not providing zoom links to any team members located in Minneapolis (where SPS is headquartered) leaving MN based employees feeling helpless and incredibly confused/frustrated. SPS continues to take away the "perks" that came with working in the office like free parking and lunch vouchers and now requires employees to pay for parking again and has cut down the amount of money you get each week for lunch all the while increasing the pressure to come into the office. SPS is behind the times when it comes to PTO. Most companies have transitioned to unlimited PTO but SPS has a less than competitive PTO allowance

Little Falls - Management needs to wake up

Pros

Company is flexible, people are able to flex hours, work from home, as needed. It's a fairly casual work environment with an aesthetically pleasing floor plan. Gaming is also available and permitted during work hours.

Cons

There's constant inter-departmental challenges between teams which makes it nearly impossible to focus on the job at hand. Management does not want to look at the "actual" issues, but more so individuals who are "problematic". Leadership claims to have an open door policy, when if fact it does not. Everything and anything you say is held against you, despite whether it is in fact true. Many employees are frustrated and remain silent as a result fearing retaliation, hence, why glass door is used as a forum. If you should recommend areas of opportunity to management they immediately are put on the defense, as a result, information is shared among-st themselves, nothing remains confidential. The same re-occurring themes have been presented to management by not one, but many individuals, often resulting in a "blaming game" or "one bad apple" spoiled the bunch type outcome. Those who don't choose to follow and play along end up leaving all together to seek out other opportunities. It is much easier to assume individuals are ill equipped for their roles versus trying to look at the core issues, which continue to be perpetuated among st leadership. Career growth is also a major concern within the organization, as there essentially is none, unless you are willing to re-locate to MINN (HQ). You either fall within the "inner" circle of do-good'rs and comply or simply fall off their radar. There's an unfortunate amount of potential that is not being utilized as a result of this favoritism.

Pros

I think the company overall is going in a good direction. Developers seemed happy. Sales reps seemed happy, although they are all fresh out of college and don't have any full-time experience to compare SPS to.

Cons

The Implementation Team is an unprofessional nightmare. It was by far the worst work experience in my 13-year career. There is a constant air of negativity: nonstop complaining from the team and everyone is always angry- clients included. I overheard customers being called "idiots" (and worse) by management after a project had been escalated. My manager barely spoke to me so I had to figure out what to do on my own and trained myself. That wasn't a problem since the work is mind-numbingly boring for an experienced PM, but it didn't lend well to a good work environment. Condescending. Unapproachable. Demeaning. Immature. Toxic. All words that come to mind when I reflect on the handful of months I tried working at SPS. Word of warning for experienced Project Managers: run far, FAR away from this place. Do not work here unless you like repetitive, boring work at ridiculous volumes (think: paper pusher) and don't want to be valued for or use your Project Management skills.
