Pros

- Good people that are fun to work with and generally competent - Office is right in thick of the the tech hub that is Lehi - You are never, ever bored - Weekly company lunches - Standing desks

Cons

Over the past six months, most of the Sr. Developers and/or long-time domain experts were either fired or left. I left of my own volition for the reasons listed below. COMPENSATION RELATED -- Pay is generally below market average -- No automatic raises - you most likely will have to ask -- No cash bonuses -- Stock options available, but of unknown value WORK ENVIRONMENT -- Noisy, open office plan -- Little personal space and no privacy -- No dividers between desks -- Devs don't have offices and sit in a noisy part of the office, near the kitchen -- Way too much light flooding in through full floor-to-ceiling windows - causes glare on monitors -- Often too cold in the office and the A/C blows down onto the desks -- Only one company-provided large monitor for developers. Buy your own if you want two. -- Chairs are cheap, not the most comfortable JOB-SPECIFIC -- If you try to please management you will have a poor work/life balance -- Under-powered infrastructure causes development and QA delays -- Inexperienced management optimizes for compute cost over developer time (penny-wise and pound-foolish) -- Inexperienced, inflexible architect designs overly complicated services which require much more development and maintenance than need be -- Product requirements are, in large part, undocumented, resulting in much refactoring in the final weeks before release - this, in turn, results in developer frustration and loss of confidence in the product organization -- Way too many manual, unautomated tasks CULTURE RELATED -- Almost no on-boarding for new devs -- Not enough mentoring for new devs -- Virtually no skills training, just code, code, code -- Not enough offsite team play -- Immature employee recognition program akin to participation trophies, but only for those whose work is visible and understandable to others -- Inflexible working hours -- Remote work frowned upon, yet management has added several overseas dev contractors -- Don't come in late or you'll be talked to MANAGEMENT RELATED -- Too little appreciation -- Too little respect -- Too little trust -- Management plays favorites with employees, and also plays least favorites (the latter usually being those brave enough to give valuable constructive criticism) -- Employee suggestions are heard, but rarely acted upon -- Little improvement to work environment despite consistent employee requests -- Frequent top-down decision making after little consultation with team -- Inexperienced, inflexible management I believe things can be turned around, but only if they bring on experienced management.

Thank you for providing a very detailed review of your experience. Compensation Related We approach compensation based on performance. While some employees don't advance, many of our employees are paid beyond market wage as a result of the value they create. Most employees at SalesRabbit have indeed received multiple raises, and nearly all receive a performance-based raise within their first year at the company. I’m proud of our compensation and benefits offerings and remain committed to always being market competitive. We also provide guidance on the prospective value of options, and 97% of employees who are no longer at SalesRabbit have retained their options. Email me at feedback@salesrabbit.com if you would like to understand more about your options. Work Environment I agree that the office you are referring to, while it was a “class A” office space, had its shortcomings. After listening to Employee feedback, we no longer operate in the office you are referring to. Starting next week, SalesRabbit offers a completely new work environment that accounts for all of the items you addressed and then some. Come by for a catered lunch on Weds at 12:00 for a tour. Everyone is welcome at SR, and the team is looking forward to the privacy, quietness, and personality of our new office. Engineers have access to private workspace and dual monitors at request. Job Specific Thank you for bearing with us as our technical program experiences growing pains. It’s important contributors like yourself who work with leadership to establish best practices and improve the overall success of the program. We have changed the leadership structure of our technical program, continued to improve development operations, and are actively attracting senior technical contributors and leadership. Culture Related I agree that historically our training program has been lacking. We have overhauled it, and now have dedicated learning and code improvement resources. As we grow we will continue to allocate more resources to this important initiative. I really appreciate the comment about the offsite play. I am committed to changing this. We recently did an offsite event last week for our engineering and product team and we need to continue to advance this cause. We also recently improved our recognition program, and we will continue to do so on an annual basis. I’m sorry if you ever felt you were not recognized adequately. This is so important to us, and we regularly ask in employee surveys about recognition. We even ask a question in our exit interviews “Did you feel you were recognized for your accomplishments?” so that we can identify how to improve from past employees. Management related As one responsible for the management within the company, I’m sorry you feel you were not appreciated, respected or trusted. I’d welcome your additional feedback, by emailing me at feedback@salesrabbit.com SalesRabbit has been very intentional with creating forums for input with dedicated Slack channels that are specific to topics, departments, releases, and any other relevant topic one could think of. Additionally, we do regular surveys, monthly all-hands meetings with anonymous Q&A, and 1:1's where Employees can ensure their voice is being heard. We deeply value this feedback and use it as guidance while managing the business. Employees are regularly invited to book meetings with management. SalesRabbit is actively hiring additional senior technical talent and leadership.

Pros

The non-development side of SalesRabbit seems to be run pretty well. Employees seem generally happy on that side of the office. The side benefits are decent, and my compensation was fine. The employees that have been hired are the best part of this company. Despite the problems with management, I enjoyed a lot of my time at the company because the people around me were great. Non-work related company culture was good. Fun parties, weekly lunches, foosball and ping pong. Management is generally good about flexible schedule - I never had a problem getting a day off, or leaving early if something came up. Working from home is allowed, though they clearly preferred you to be in office, which is fine. It seems like the founders want things to be better, they were always willing to make changes. But the changes they agreed to make didn't solve things, because the underlying problems are still there. The first year for a new employee is usually pretty good. Management talks a good game, they are friendly and upbeat. It takes a while to really see what is actually happening. Grit is rewarded - if you are the type to never complain and just get the job done, even if it takes all night, then you will do well here.

Cons

The founders of SalesRabbit decided that a few years of experience coding their own product means that they understand how to run a development team. But worse than this, they believe that they understand much better than their own developers. Developers they hired, developers with 10-15 years of experience in the industry, developers who are deep in the day-to-day of the company, who can see exactly what is working and what is not working. This has led to a dev team in shambles. If you look closely at the recent positive reviews of this company from customer service and salespeople, you'll notice a repeated theme of "problematic releases". The founders have refused to give anyone else any sort of authority when it comes to development. For a long time, they were running a flat structure (which was a disaster), but even now, when they have moved back to smaller teams, Team Lead is just an empty title. They aren't allowed any real autonomy or authority to make decisions or choices. The founders make all the decisions, including some really bad choices of pushing out code that wasn't properly tested. They say a lot of things, but then their actions don't back it up. Developers hear things like "take time to write tests", and "spend some time each day studying new things", and "we trust you to make good decisions". But then are constantly reminded that they aren't finishing their projects fast enough and that they have to get things out ASAP because the features were promised to a client. At a meeting this year, devs were reminded that "we just suck at releases", yet management won't allow any full-time employees to stop the coding they are doing in order to fix the release process. Priorities change with the wind. Attempts to fix the dev culture are seen as undermining authority and a "toxic attitude". Every developer who has been at the company long enough to see the issues has serious concerns about the way the department is being run. Some are more vocal than others, and those ones are being driven out. Once you have been identified as having a bad attitude, nothing you say matters anymore. SalesRabbit company values are Grit, Gratitude, and Curiosity. But the founders' actions show that the only one they really care about is Grit. If you are the type of worker who wants to just keep your head down and do what you are told, and doesn't mind working extra time so that you can deal with the disarray of the department, then you will probably thrive at SalesRabbit. It all comes down to philosophy. If you believe that devs should just be happy someone is paying them, and you believe that all devs can easily be replaced, and you believe that it is more important to get today's work done than it is to spend some time so that tomorrow's work is easier, then you will fit right in. But if you believe that the way to create a successful company is to hire and retain good dev talent, and give them what they need to succeed, and empower them with authority to do their job the way they think it should be done, then SalesRabbit is not the company for you.

Thanks for your input and review. As a growing company, change is a constant and you have been with us through a lot of transition. Of course, not every change will be perfect, and we do our best to pivot based on what we learn. We are committed to always improving, which requires always listening, learning and responding as a cohesive team. Here are some of the adjustments we have made in just the last 60 days: - Actively recruiting a CTO to empower our development department - Repositioned the role and autonomy of our Team Leads - We have a new office and have created new dedicated engineering offices and resources improving the operating environment for all our staff. - We have streamlined the release process and improved communication and coordination around releases. This includes not just development departmental processes but company-wide communications. This has been received very positively. -We have added numerous development operations tools to our kit, and included training around using them. Some examples are VividCortex, AWS CloudWatch, FullStory, Sentry, Firebase and New Relic. - We have implemented dedicated time and resources for continued learning and code improvement. I’d welcome your additional feedback, by emailing me at feedback@salesrabbit.com

Pros

- First place I've worked where the CEO took the time to get to know me personally. - Everyone works closely. - There are feature teams, but no one gets weird responses when asking for help cross-team. (basically, great place to learn and grow) - I don't feel micromanaged. I feel trusted and believed in to do a good job. - Recognition for good work. That is definitely not a problem here. - Perks and parties (families are invited) - Hires talented people - Great base pay - Company will be around for a long time in my opinion. SalesRabbit definitely has a competitive advantage in the market that they are in.

Cons

- Some employees take advantage of the lack of micromanagement. There is definitely management going on, but not micromanagement. Perhaps these I have in mind are just complacent and prefer coasting to growing and learning.

Thanks for the advice. We aim to be productive as an organization and as individuals. 1:1's are one of the many tools we use to align with team members to ensure the work experience is great for them and their contributions are great for the clients and the company. CEO participation, friendships at work, freedom to do great work, recognition, talented teams, and great pay are a few of the attributes we all enjoy at SalesRabbit.
