Pros

Good Solutions Architects, engineers and sales folks.

Cons

Management supremely favors those who have been established there. High turnover for sure. When I was there, they had antiquated practices and outdated methods of sales and forecasting. HR is a joke has has no clue on many things HR would need to be privy on. Management lied when they promised to train and groom new employees only to dismiss them with no prior warning - very cavalier, unprofessional, subtle and disingenuous.

Our mission for our employees is to create a work environment that encourages creativity, fosters growth and rewards success. These are the core principles we use as a foundation to make sure we are setting up each team and every team member up for success. For our SA team, we strive to foster their growth through peer mentoring, internal training, partner trainings, certification courses, and exposure to multiple customers. We have found this combination of activities to be very effective and we are disappointed to hear your experience was so different from so many other team members in terms of fostering growth. The methods and tools used by the Sales team do not always make sense to those outside the department, but we can assure you we are using the same principles for that team to set them up for success—which includes implementing the most efficient and effective processes possible. Our employees are family which makes your “Advice to Management” particularly painful to read. We have internal paths in place to voice concerns to direct managers - along with escalation all the way up to the Senior Management/ownership team - because the opinions of our employees are so important to us. Based on your concerns, it appears these paths were underutilized and led you to feel disconnected. Thanks for your feedback. Best of luck in your future endeavors.

Pros

Sentinel is a company that affords employees a great deal of opportunity such as financial and career advancement as well as work/life balance. Sentinel is also a company that stands behind its work and strives to ensure customer satisfaction and long-term partnerships.

Cons

Every organization has cons, but if you have a positive attitude you will see that there are definitely more pros than cons.

A Company left behind

Pros

Coworkers and administrative staff are friendly to work with and are generally professional and friendly. If you are an entry level Engineer or Administrator, pursuing a consultative role, this is a great place to begin. However, have the realistic expectation this position will only be 2-4 years maximum.

Cons

The company as a whole lacks general direction and has been left behind by the trending IT verticals. Disconnects from sales strategy to delivery are clearly apparent and leadership is unwilling and incapable of working collaboratively to identify business initiatives that will provide profitability and growth. Individuals hired as a technical entity with more than 5 years of experience will find they are not challenged and will not be provided necessary resources to grow professionally. Sentinel will sell the expectation of playing to a much larger market, however, dont be confused or misguided, they are very much an SMB player and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. They continue to win the Chicago Tribune "Top Workplaces" award, however, culture and employee satisfaction continue to degrade. During my tenure I experienced a minimum of a 30% attrition rate and the average individual left, including myself, because of concern surrounding the long term viability of this companies ability to compete and deliver successful solutions to customers.
