Pros

A stable and growing company in an economy which is really struggling. Steady paycheck and no worries about it not clearing.

Cons

Where to start!! The politics and needless management in this place is crazy! This company has a few key people in "management" positions who have no business being there. And yet they remain. The executive committee are more interested in whether or not you wear a tie than in what you can bring to the company talent-wise. And don't even begin to think you can introduce a fresh idea. HR is a joke- they are simply "agents" for the company and are incompetent. But most gaulling of all is the psudeo-Christianity that is prevalent there.

Pros

The corporate office and the franchise community are full of wonderful people. I got to work with truly amazing people in Gallatin and with the franchises around the country. There is a family atmosphere that is rare and hard to find anywhere else. You can learn a vast array of knowledge from all areas of the business. The industry is fascinating and changing all the time. The home-grown entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well. The CEO really cares about employees and tries to take care of them. They are also debt-free and growing. A great place to start a career.

Cons

Uptight. They do not trust professionals to do their jobs and they micromanage from the very top (the CEO reviews all articles going out with a red pen). Division managers have zero authority and on down the line, it only gets worse. As far as business practices, they are behind the times. The internal business processes are a mess and nonexistent in some areas. There are no project managers other than for IT development projects. There are major initiatives going on with no project managers driving them or even using project management practices- they are just winging it, so projects, including software, tend to take years longer than they need to. There is NO employee development. Any professional growth is a by-product of what is provided to the franchisees if you are in a department that has access.

Servpro Industries Response

Thank you for your comments. I do agree with the employee's "Pros" comments. In fact Servpro Industries, Inc. just received its most recent award being named a Tennessee Top Workplace for 2015. The basis for this award were the results obtained from an employee survey conducted via the Tennessean. Which leads me to the employee's "Cons" comments. I respectfully disagree with this former employee's opinion and allow me to briefly elaborate. I report directly to Sue Steen, the Company's CEO. Yes, at one time, Sue did review and edit some of the articles before they were printed in the Company's monthly Newsletter. Sue has delegated much of her proof and editing responsibilities to the Company's Editor. However, Sue and our other Executives are "hands on" in reading, editing and approving key documents, contracts, etc. As Executives, approving key documents is one of their many key responsibilities. Our Executives are committed to actively leading our company. As one of the Company's Division Managers, I have been delegated the responsibility and authority to do my job, as well as the other Division Managers. Business practices are improving. Manual processes, including those in my Division, are in the process of being converted from manual to automated processes. Many non-IT Divisions, including mine, have access to Project Managers to assist our Division complete its non-IT related projects. Our PM's have been a tremendous benefit to completing projects in our Divisions. The Company is totally committed to personal and professional development. One of my HR professional staff members is 100% dedicated to employee training and development. SERVPRO has award-winning training facilities, all employees have 24/7 access to thousands of cloud-based video streaming training programs, and we also offer on site "brick and mortar" training programs.
