Pros

Decent benefits, decent pay, amazing product.

Cons

Management, communication, poor follow through. This company is constantly changing processes and supervisors don’t ever know much to what is going on. The company has a great product but no sense of support from management. Overall I wish I would have had a better outlook with this company but it seems that they need a refresh from higher ups:

Pros

Remote working options were a plus especially after 2020. Great team relationships and collaboration for the workers on the ground.

Cons

Terrible strategic visioning last few years especially for the one product with the most users. Tech debt caused as a result of not wanting to further innovate causing a deep hole proving difficult to get out of. Unrealistic timelines without the resources to support it. If one issue occurred prior to the next launch the whole ship would go down because the company was inadequately supported to handle problems. Upper management would make it seem like this wasn’t their problem to solve, either. Terrible employee managers and LOTS of reorganizing on the product side leading to decreased morale and just lost positivity for a product many truly believed in. Unsupportive managers when personal issues would arise leading to even further decreased morale. Being asked if you’re expecting to take more time off work outside of bereavement after a death in the family is inhumane. Workers are not robots. And finally, hiring people from Amazon and other tech companies is not a great way to drive innovation at a medical device company helping people with diabetes. This isn’t selling products with next day shipping. It’s slightly more complicated than that, and tech experts are not the right fight in this world because this world isn’t just software development. There are real people using the product with a lifelong disease.

Another life-saving company ruined by poor leadership and investor pressure

Pros

The most important takeaway: Tandem Diabetes Care used to be a proud patient-first company. From basic designs to regulatory assessments, we worked meticulously to ensure our patients received the safest and best performing products we could release. The mentorship and career growth opportunities were world class. If you were serious about a goal, your manager and team would guide you to making it happen. This led to a lot of people earning promotions they otherwise wouldn't have dreamed of and excelling in those new roles. Prior to the first wave of layoffs in 2023, a large number of managers and directors were internally promoted. These managers and directors reinforced a positive and inclusive culture while driving Tandem to a decade-high share price. The employees were all very friendly and welcoming, which contributed to an amazing working environment. Despite the salaries being closer to the median, the equity compensation was phenomenal.

Cons

New leadership hired in FY '21-'22 were brought in to help the company grow to a larger scale. Tandem is a medical device company, but this new leadership cohort primarily ran the department like a software company. They couldn't even do that right, and instead of accountability, they laid off hardworking (including longtime) employees in multiple waves. Rather than focusing on what made us successful, leadership caved to investor pressure, and that in turn worsened our company performance. They transformed Tandem from a patient-first company to an investor-first company and we all paid the price. Equity (in the form of stock) is no longer offered to employees.
