Pros

Great opportunity to make connections amongst your colleagues and the patients that you meet on a day to day. Opportunities to learn and gain skill.

Cons

Pay is not the best, especially with the heavy tax they take from each paycheck. Money driven despite the facade of prioritizing member experience. Lack of care and consideration for non salaried employees. No acknowledgement of all federal holidays, including Juneteenth.

Thank you for sharing your feedback and experience at Tend. We're glad to hear that you value the connections made with colleagues and our members, as well as the learning opportunities available. Building strong relationships and continuously growing skill sets are central to our mission, and we appreciate your recognition of these aspects. We’re committed to ensuring that both financial and professional growth are aligned with the hard work and dedication of our team members. We also remain competitive in offering overall holiday benefits, and for 2025, we've carefully considered and improved our paid holiday offerings. With consistent holidays across both our Hubs and Studios, we’re excited to introduce an additional floating holiday this year. We genuinely value employee feedback and will continue to look for ways to enhance our work environment, ensuring it reflects the respect and care we also show our members. Thank you for your contribution to our organization for the past four years. If you would like to continue this discussion, please email us at people@hellotend.com.

Pros

The clinicians are passionate and caring, and are wonderful people to work with. Many do their best to deliver on the Tend promise of “changing dentistry” and making the dentist not such an intimidating place to be. They deserve far better than they get, especially the hygienists and dental assistants.

Cons

Oh boy, where to start. Tend has a myriad of problems that start from the top and trickle all the way down to the bottom, affecting everything from patient care to employee satisfaction. Don’t be fooled by the sparkly ads and social media campaigns, at the end of the day, Tend only cares about production goals. This is accomplished through micromanagement at every level; corporate micromanages the studio managers, turning them into micromanagers themselves. This makes for an extremely unpleasant work environment, as new, unnecessary measures are constantly put in place to ensure studios can make as much production as possible. These include pressuring patients to schedule treatment, harassing them if they don’t, and overbooking schedules to increase doctor production/account for “possible falloff” which many times does not happen. This negatively affects the staff as well, as many feel constantly overworked and pressured to increase both their individual and studio production, even if they are part of the majority that see no benefit from it (only managers and doctors get bonuses). Employees are expected to constantly be in work mode, no matter what. I have seen employees harassed on vacation, shamed for calling out due to medical emergencies, and forced to come into work despite hurricanes and blizzards. At least one studio has even been forced to illegally operate without a doctor present, just for the slightest chance at a little more production. This company has very little regard for both patients and employees, and this has resulted in broken trust and an extremely high turnover rate.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. Feedback from our current and former team members is extremely important to us and essential to helping us continue to improve the employee experience. We are sorry to learn that this was your experience. We strive to deliver on our promise to create an environment that both our patients and our teams enjoy. We are sorry to have let you down. Our dentists and hygienists are given the autonomy to provide the best possible care to their patients and are supported by a group of operational and clinical leaders that prioritize patient outcomes over quotas. We are an early stage company continuously learning and improving. Our most successful team members are nimble, flexible and driven to create experiences members look forward to. We reject the claim that any team was forced to practice illegally or come to work in conditions that were unsafe or hazardous. We would be grateful for the opportunity to speak with you about your experience to address these concerns. Please reach out to people@hellotend.com to continue the conversation.

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate your time and expertise tending to our members and your team. We provide a competitive total rewards package for our roles and do look towards PTO as a strong component of these rewards to promote flexibility across work and time off. We continuously look to improve the development of our operations and managers, and look towards our engagement surveys to seek additional feedback.
