Was a great place to work

Pros

Loved every minute of my job until the last couple years. Had lots of freedom of hours and work operations.

Cons

All that changed when Amazon took more control off the company. New management came in, specifically in merchandising. Have to placate their egos and do extreme amounts of busy work. Overall they had an agenda to make work life miserable for all of merchandising department to turn over tenured employees. Pay cuts and demotions were the last straw.

Amazon is killing the company slowly

Pros

There are great benefits and leaders.

Cons

Most people assume that the current leadership is to blame for the current state of the company. Sadly this is not true. The previous two leaders built in a ton of tech and process debt that is hurting Zappos from moving forward. Amazon is dictating headcount, processes and even strategy. It doesn’t make sense from their level as it is two different companies and Zappos needs its own strategy. Sadly the current leadership takes the blame for this but the main con is Amazon. They are killing what they bought because the only thing that matters is profit. Profit above everything. They are unintentionally killing the company even though it would be better to sell Zappos…There’s no patience to allow the current leadership to fix past transgressions and build a future strategy.

Pros

Company is fully remote, provides stipend for internet, benefits are good 401k/Dental/Health/Vision ($75ish per check), vacation earning is around 5 hours per paycheck, everyone is super friendly, lay offs with severance/job search assistance, no call timers and there are specialty teams to move around and receive $0.75 raises (9 month duration).

Cons

Very liberal, female led, majority female company, Amazon owns the company, micro managed time metrics, no paid lunch, company culture is dying, they’ll lay off employees of 10+ years, 1 minute after call handle time, no more paid company events (employees have to take Unpaid Time Off to attend) for the “fun” ones, investors > employees.
