Pros

The people, including management, are great. They are flexible, motivated, good trainers and really do care about their employees.

Cons

The job is pure cold calling of small business owners, busy people who don't want to talk to you. Most of the business owners have been called about digital marketing (Google ranking) dozens of times and will tell you they are not interested and/or just hang up on you. You'll make 2500 calls a month and if you can close 6 deals, it's considered to be "good". After the sale is closed, if the customer cancels before 6 months, Townsquare takes money directly out of your check even though you have no control over what happens after the sale. Out of the 170 sales people on the floor, about 20 of them are making decent money (bring home commissions of $5k-$10k). The job is for people who are brand new to sales who don't realize they could work a lot less and make the same money. A co-worker who was able to hit "quota" every month ended up making $52k in 2018 with a $35k base salary. This is after "claw backs" after the sale when a client cancels their service, which you have absolutely no control over. Townsquare goes after new college grads who have no idea that they can make two to three times as much money selling something else. Managers are in their 20's. There is a ton of "positivity" on the sales floor, but at the end of the day, the pay sucks and you leave the work day wiped out because you are required to make dozens and dozens of calls and may never speak to a single customer. They will teach you how to sell, but you will not be compensated appropriately for the amount of work and stress you will experience. Be a car salesman, work with the same level of intensity and make three times the money.

Hi and thank you for leaving us some feedback about your experience with us. Our recruiting department is very upfront about the day-to-day of a sales rep when they invite new hires in to our office for interviews. Interviewees also get the opportunity to sit with current employees to get a hands-on feel of what the role is like and have the time to ask them questions about the role. If you felt that you were deceived in some way, it's important to speak with management and HR to properly remedy the situation.

Failing Fast

Pros

I met some hardworking and talented people here. They were treated like garbage by the company, as we all were, but I suppose I would never have met them if it weren't for TSI.

Cons

Leadership preaches a "people first" approach and then turns around and prioritizes glitchy algorithms over human labor. When I started as a content writer, it was a point of pride that we didn't reuse content for different clients, that each website was uniquely created for the small business owners we represented. Then they stopped editing our work and just ran it through Grammarly. Then they started using ChatGPT's idiot cousin to churn out slop in the hopes that the clients wouldn't be able to tell the difference. In the past seven years, TSI has chipped away at the "people" part of the company in order to cut costs and, I guess, fail faster. That's on the wall of the office when you walk in: FAIL FAST. The idea is that if you make big moves and leap headfirst into your bold new ideas, you will learn fast and succeed via trial and error. Townsquare Interactive is failing. Not as fast as I'd like, but failing nonetheless. Every move they make to retain clients and disrespect employees just makes them seem more desperate. Clients do not get quality web content, and employees get belittled and crushed down into the mud. I spent five years of my life here and I wish to God I could get them back. This company does not care about hard work, creativity, quality or people. It is a blight to the good city of Charlotte and I look forward to its final dying gasp.
