Pros
Fair salary, about middle of the pack in retail. Schedule is flexible January through September. Usually have enough payroll to focus on sales and tasks. Empowered to market at a local level with Instagram. Guests are awesome! Overall the job is easy if you’re organized. Turn in reportables on time, make payroll, toe the line for the flavor of the week and you’re fine.
Cons
Benefits are not that good for medical, dental, etc. Bonus is near impossible to achieve and isn’t that great to begin with. Outside of salaried roles, the pay scale is MUCH lower than most retail. Good luck recruiting and retaining your team! No training for hourlies beyond a short orientation, The supervisor onboarding material is about five years out of date. Inconsistent message from above the store. You never hear about sales and the bottom line. You’ll get rode hard for credit cards and protection plans. The focus changes weekly. They constantly hire bench salaried managers. The mentality is you are replaceable and they show it. Store manager turnover appears to be 50% and ASM is close. HR is inconsistent in applying policies. They have implemented a performance improvement plan in 2017 for salaried managers, but are comfortable terminating managers with no write ups versus building a better leader. No control over your product lines. You can’t ask for items and get what you get. IT is way outdated. The registers have a quirky program. The RF scanned spend more time disconnected from the network.
