Pros

Benefits are decent, but unlimited PTO can be misleading.

Cons

Constant reorgs and layoffs made planning and morale difficult. Leadership often came across as “do as I say, not as I do,” where messaging and stated values didn’t match decisions or day-to-day behavior, which made it hard to trust communication. Leadership communication felt unclear, and decisions often required too many approvals, slowing execution. Compensation and growth opportunities felt below market. Management quality varied, and accountability felt inconsistent.

Pros

CUNA Mutual Group was a top employer in Madison for decades. Sure, it had it's challenges and inefficiencies, but it's leaders & employees truly cared. They made a difference in the lives of their members & in the community at large. It was a place you were proud to work for. Bob Trunzo may not have been the best businessman around but he sure made us all feel good about the work we were doing. He did the right thing for us during the pandemic (even giving us a full week off at labor day), ensuring that our health and safety was tops. He will always be remembered fondly.

Cons

In 2023, CMG evolved to TruStage. The new brand was to encapsulate all the many disparate brands that CMG had offered over the years, which made sense. A new CEO - Terrance Williams - was appointed. Everyone was optimistic. In the 2 years since his hiring, leadership has been replaced entirely, with no regard for historical knowledge. The culture has gone downhill - with layoffs and restructuring frequent occurrences. When asked recently if I would recommend this as a place to work, I had to be honest and say "not right now. Wait a few years, until the next CEO is hired."
