Pros

The product works. Customers have potential for substantial ROI.

Cons

If you are considering taking on an Enterprise sales role, be careful. Talk to any recruiters or current, ex-sales people and you will understand only a small percentage of reps are making their number. History of company was largely inside sales from Boston office,. In 2017 after getting a round of funding they grew "enterprise" field substantially. They clearly over hired expecting same level of success they had with the NE sector,. This simply hasn't happened, and there's often a disconnect with field sales and corporate as far as customer demand and what is required in various regions. They have hired poor sales managers and directors who provide little value add.. The sales cycles are very long and political because of what you are replacing. So some typical challenges of technology sales, but for a company that's been around as long as it has, Turbo imo was surprisingly lacking in basic sales operations: supporting the field with enough SE's, having any level of channel support, lead generation, etc. There's also some strange gerrymandering of territories to take care of reps that have been there longer, and also large accounts that still go to commercial reps (inside reps in Boston), etc. so that can make it even more difficult for a new enterprise rep trying to make a number in a territory with few Turbo customers.

Thanks for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. In full disclosure, you hit on a number of important items and we appreciate that you captured some of the complexity we faced in scaling out a team in a material way. We’ve hired a tremendous amount of new reps, SEs and managers. We understand that when you hire at the rate we did, some people had experiences that were less than ideal. That is yesteryear however. This year, we’ve rebuilt our channel program from the ground up and doubled our SE team. We’ve seen record quarter over quarter increase in productivity for our enterprise sales team in additional to record revenue growth. One of the most important trends is that we have reps now, who are new, but have already hit their annual number for the year. This is at the mid-way point in our FY. We’ve accomplished this by re-working how we onboard, ramp and scale our team (through both a much improved new hire program and enablement process) Although we have made big investments in functions like sales engineering, channel and lead generation, based on your feedback, perhaps we could have done that sooner. We hope we can reconnect to talk through your concerns at some point. Please feel free to reach out at any time and we will be happy to listen.

Cons

you name it. Incompetent managers, no focus, useless senior management, falling sales and playing blame game.

Your title is very clever, at the very least it shows we hire intelligent people :-) Turbonomic is definitely a Unicorn and in any form that is a great thing and we are very proud of that.

Pros

Interesting product some good people.

Cons

You will be told one thing about success growth bonuses but reality is different. Small group of people followed founders from another company and get real promotions raises options but the rest get promotions with no raise and no other real reward. Promise of success and getting rich used to keep workers at long hours weekends holidays, constant pressure to be in the office longer days, engineering schedules nights for work and you get talking to if you don't stay.
