Pros

-High pay -Lots of interesting cases

Cons

-Super toxic culture -None of the senior members were interested in teaching the younger members, even though the company was unable to hire any more senior members -Senior members made younger members feel unwanted by clearly stating that they had wanted senior employees with 5+ years of experience instead of vet assistants with fewer years of experience -Senior members never wanted to teach the less experienced employees even though it would have made their jobs easier -Senior members made younger employees feel bad for calling out, even if it was due to illness -Everyone was clearly overworked -Short-staffed yet management still refused to decrease the number of days the clinic was open for despite the request - I have heard from MANY, MANY people who have worked at MULTIPLE locations that all VCAs are the same and are the worst places to work in

Pros

Good benefits package overall. No one in management has been difficult or rude.

Cons

From a veterinarian whose clinic was purchased: Corporate BS. No concern for work/life balance. Company will PROMISE not to change the culture of the clinic, raise prices, or that anything will be noticeable to the clients after transition. These are bald faced lies. Every single thing changes- starting with an insane amount of “required” online “training” that you’re expected to complete in your free time. The prices are 10-20% higher the second you switch to their software. The software (WoofWare) is awful- it takes me 3x as long to complete medical notes or look anything up. It’s glitchy and constantly crashes. Then of course, all the clients notice the change and you’re forced to either grin and cover for corporate’s butt or tell them they’re better off somewhere else. During COVID and the crazy veterinary surge, we weren’t able to regulate our own schedules leading to massive staff burnout and turnover. Corporate has NO IDEA what the front lines are like and it’s clear that they view their employees as expendable.

Pros

Wonderful support staff that is caring and willing to go the extra mile in all situations.

Cons

Management style is designed to increase profitability in the face of compromising work/life balance. Working as aggressively as possible, there is never the indication that what is being done as an employee is sufficient. More is always expected, and even if not implied, many employees are expendable or feel that way. Morale is often low. Suggestions for change were met with reasons why those suggestions are not feasible or excuses are provided as to why suggestions can not be implemented.
